About The Position

The Web Platform team at Airbnb is dedicated to empowering engineers within their TypeScript monorepo to deliver innovative features with high velocity and quality. They achieve this by providing foundational libraries, frameworks, and tools for development, testing, and release, with an increasing focus on AI-powered tooling to enhance developer productivity. The team works with web-specific technologies and integrations, acting as a liaison between product engineers and platform-agnostic infrastructure teams, while also maintaining the health of the monorepo. A key priority is delivering a superior out-of-the-box developer experience through AI-assisted workflows, strong defaults, and clear patterns, enabling engineers to work faster and with more confidence. The team's responsibilities include testing frameworks, developer environments, build systems, bundlers, CI pipelines, observability and experimentation libraries, editor integrations, and an internal web service framework, all aimed at improving developer productivity, effectiveness, and daily experience.

  • Experience with TypeScript/JavaScript
  • Interest harnessing AI tools (like Claude Code and Codex) to modernize and expedite development practices
  • Ability to communicate effectively and work closely with other engineering teams across complex interfaces
  • Love of collaborating via code reviews and architecture discussions
  • Interest in working with IDE infrastructure, such as: VS Code plugins or language servers, or Claude Code skills and MCP servers

Nice To Haves

  • Partner with Airbnb product teams to understand their pain points, pilot proposed solutions, and encourage adoption of tools and frameworks.
  • Collaborate with a wide variety of infrastructure teams as well as support product foundation teams as they build additional capabilities on top of the team’s offerings.
  • Participate in all phases of software development from architecture/design through implementation, testing, and on-call.
