About The Position

Apple’s Swift Server Networking team builds libraries and frameworks that form the foundations of mission-critical systems. The team develops in Swift, specializes in frameworks for distributed systems, and publishes much of its work as open source, including SwiftNIO and gRPC Swift. The team values technical excellence, software quality, and a strong engineering community. In this role, you will build and improve libraries and SDKs for large-scale, mission-critical services in Swift. You will help influence platform direction and collaborate with cross-functional teams across Apple to define, implement, and deliver functionality for the next generation of Apple Services. Work spans cloud services and iOS and macOS SDK development, with Swift as the common focus. The team is open to engineers learning relevant domain skills on the job.

  • Willingness to tackle new problems.
  • Focus on producing reliable, maintainable, deliverable software.
  • Comfort working across multiple levels of abstraction and understanding complex systems.
  • Strong communication and relationship-management skills, including collaboration across functions.
  • Passion for quality and technical excellence.

Nice To Haves

  • Expertise in library design and API evolution.
  • Experience with asynchronous or streaming programming, such as Reactive Streams, Dispatch, or Combine.
  • Experience implementing, debugging, and scaling network protocols.
  • Experience with modern high-performance Linux networking technologies, including some or all of eBPF (with or without XDP), DPDK, and io_uring.
  • Familiarity with QUIC and some of its extensions.
  • Familiarity with modern cryptography, including major categories of cryptographic primitives, their safe use, and practices to avoid.

Responsibilities
