About The Position

Peraton is seeking a Software Engineer (Senior) to support the MODES III program, which aids Military Community and Family Policy (MC&FP). The selected candidate will be responsible for architecting, leading, and delivering complex, secure, cloud-native applications and microservices within AWS GovCloud (IL2/IL4/IL5), ensuring scalability, resilience, and alignment with RMF/ATO requirements. This is a remote position requiring an active Secret clearance.

Requirements

  • Active Secret clearance required.
  • 10+ years relevant experience with BS/BA or 12+ years with AS/AA or 14 years without a degree or 8 years experience with MS/MA or 6 years with PHD.
  • Demonstration of capability within the Cyberspace IT workforce via an approved industry certification (e.g., A+ or Network+) or documented equivalent military/educational training as defined in the DoD 8140 Qualification Matrix.

Nice To Haves

  • Eligible for Top Secret/SCI clearance.
  • AWS certifications (e.g., AWS Solutions Architect, AWS Security Specialty) or equivalent cloud certifications.
  • Experience with cloud-native data pipelines, analytics platforms, or data lake architectures.
  • Familiarity with NIST RMF, ATO processes, and DoD security compliance frameworks.
  • Hands-on experience with Kubernetes, container orchestration, and microservices architectures.
  • CompTIA Security+.

Responsibilities

  • Architecting, leading, and delivering complex, secure, cloud-native applications and microservices (AWS GovCloud IL2/IL4/IL5), ensuring scalability, resilience, and RMF/ATO alignment.
  • Designing enterprise API contracts, secure data ingestion pipelines to the data lake, containerized deployments (K8s/EKS), autoscaling and observability, and high availability patterns for production services.
  • Driving DevSecOps practices, including CI/CD with security gates (SAST/DAST), automated deployment/rollback, Infrastructure as Code (Terraform/CloudFormation), and production runbooks.
  • Leading database architecture and backup/disaster recovery design, defining Recovery Time Objectives (RTO) and Recovery Point Objectives (RPO), conducting disaster recovery exercises, and directing production incident response and post-incident reviews.
  • Providing technical leadership to cross-functional teams (UX, analytics, security), defining telemetry and web health Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) for dashboards, and authoring RMF/ATO artifacts and eMASS inputs.
  • Familiarity with: AWS (EKS, Lambda, RDS), Docker/Kubernetes, Terraform, SAST/DAST tools, and Oracle RAC.
