Job Description Provides detailed technical design and development of software solutions using existing and emerging technology platforms. Proposes & designs software solutions to address complex business needs. Writes code, tests and deploys software. Prepares technical and procedural documentation required for software. Maintains and debugs software. Requirements

  • 7+ years of hands-on experience developing, enhancing, and supporting IBM z/OS mainframe applications in large-scale, regulated enterprise environments.
  • Advanced proficiency in COBOL, JCL, and CICS, supporting both online transaction processing and complex batch workflows.
  • Strong experience with DB2 including complex SQL, schema design, performance tuning, and data integrity controls.
  • Proven ability to understand, refactor, and modernize large, complex legacy codebases while maintaining system stability and performance.
  • Deep experience with mainframe source control and deployment tooling used in enterprise financial institutions, including Endevor or successor platforms, and an understanding of enterprise promotion and audit controls.
  • Strong working knowledge of enterprise batch scheduling tools (e.g., CA-7, Control-M) and end-to-end batch dependency management.
  • Experience working within mainframe security frameworks, including ACF2 concepts, privileged access controls, and separation-of-duties requirements.
  • Extensive experience supporting mission-critical production systems, including participation in on-call rotations, major incident response, and post-incident root cause analysis.
  • Demonstrated ability to independently diagnose and resolve issues using abends, dumps, logs, and tracing tools across CICS and batch environments.
  • Strong understanding of change management, release governance, and CAB-controlled environments within financial services.
  • Ability to serve as a technical leader for mainframe initiatives, providing design guidance, code reviews, and mentoring to less-experienced engineers.
  • Experience translating business and regulatory requirements into technical designs, with a focus on scalability, resiliency, and long-term maintainability.
  • Strong collaboration skills, working closely with product owners, business partners, QA, infrastructure, and operations teams in Agile or hybrid Agile delivery models.
  • Excellent documentation and communication skills, supporting knowledge transfer, operational readiness, and audit expectations.
  • Experience supporting or enhancing PNC retail banking, payments, or core transaction processing systems on the mainframe.
  • Direct involvement in mainframe modernization or optimization initiatives, including migration away from legacy tooling such as Endevor, CA-7, TPX, or Easytrieve.
  • Experience integrating mainframe applications with distributed systems, APIs, or event-driven architectures.
  • Prior experience acting as a senior or lead engineer, owning technical decisions and driving improvements across multiple applications or domains.
