About The Position

Cartesian is building spatial intelligence for indoor environments to drive operational efficiency. Our product collects and interfaces with proprietary data from large, enterprise customers, and keeping this data secure is a core pillar of our product strategy. We are looking for a security-minded software engineer to implement new features, build infrastructure, and scale our product with a particular emphasis on security. This role involves refining threat models, improving access control, managing cloud infrastructure, expanding security monitoring, improving CI/CD pipelines, and defining principles and processes for building secure systems by default. Engineers are expected to collaborate closely with all aspects of the business to identify needs, prioritize, and drive projects forward autonomously. The team works in-person 5 days a week in Kendall Square.

Requirements

  • 3+ years of experience building software products at a company with a high engineering bar.
  • Real exposure to security-minded work (e.g. application and access-control security, infrastructure and pipeline security, or audits/certifications).
  • Track record of driving complex, end-to-end projects.
  • Strong opinions on how to structure software applications for development speed, maintainability, and performance.
  • Excellent written communication (designing projects, sharing progress updates, reviewing other people’s work, getting buy-in on decisions, etc.).
  • Passion for building secure systems, teams, and products at all stages of the software lifecycle.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with modern Python (e.g. FastAPI).
  • Experience with cloud infrastructure management (e.g. Azure, Kubernetes, Helm, Terraform).
  • Experience with security monitoring tools (e.g. Datadog).
  • Experience with CI/CD pipelines.
  • Experience with distributed systems for ML workloads.
  • Experience with data technologies (e.g. Postgres, Blob Storage, Parquet).

Responsibilities

  • Implement new features with a particular emphasis on security.
  • Build infrastructure to scale the product.
  • Guide the company through security certifications and audits (e.g. SOC 2).
  • Refine threat models and improve access control across the product.
  • Manage cloud infrastructure using IaC tools, including Kubernetes, Helm, Terraform.
  • Expand security monitoring using standard tools (e.g. Datadog).
  • Improve CI/CD pipelines to ship quickly and with high quality.
  • Develop dashboards for internal and external users.
  • Work on distributed systems for compute-heavy ML workloads.
  • Define principles and build processes so that everyone on the team builds secure systems by default.
  • Closely collaborate with all aspects of the business to figure out what needs to get done, pull in the right people for prioritization and sign-off, and move projects forward autonomously.
