Type One Energy is seeking a highly experienced Software Engineer - Realtime Control to support the development, deployment, and operation of our Plasma Control System (PCS). This role is responsible for implementing the real-time control functionality that directly enables high performance, high-availability operation of the plasma at the core of our stellarator fusion power plant. The successful candidate will work closely with the PCS lead scientist and CODAC (Control, Data Access, and Communication) engineers to design, implement, test, and maintain real-time control software and supporting hardware infrastructure. This position plays a critical role in ensuring reliable and high-performance plasma operation.

Requirements

  • B.S. or M.S. in Software Engineering, Computer Engineering, Computer Science, or related technical field.
  • 7+ years of experience implementing real-time control systems in production or operational environments.
  • Strong expertise in embedded systems and real-time operating systems (RTOS).
  • Deep practical knowledge of concurrent, multi-threaded, multi-processor, and networked computation architectures.
  • Mastery of C/C++ development
  • Experience implementing digital filters
  • Extensive experience implementing continuous integration and automated testing pipelines.
  • Experience with deterministic real-time communication hardware and protocols (e.g. TSN or similar)
  • Significant experience selecting, configuring, and interfacing with high-speed, real-time DAQ hardware.
  • Demonstrated success leading and delivering complex software development projects.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience developing and implementing plasma control systems for fusion or other high-energy physics devices.
  • Experience deploying machine learning algorithms in real-time or embedded environments.
  • Familiarity with high-availability architectures.
  • Experience supporting operational scientific or industrial facilities.

Responsibilities
