About The Position

Wells Fargo is seeking a Software Engineer – Quantum Security to support the evaluation, integration, and operationalization of next‑generation cryptographic and quantum‑resistant security capabilities. This role emphasizes hands‑on operational support for the Quantum Security team, including vendor engagement, sourcing activities, research enablement, and patent support, while contributing to proof‑of‑technology efforts and ongoing capability maturation. The position operates at the intersection of technology evaluation, vendor ecosystem management, and security operations, helping translate emerging quantum security concepts into practical, usable solutions. The engineer will work under guidance from senior engineers or product owners while independently driving well‑defined tasks, coordinating with vendors, and supporting early‑stage technology adoption.

Requirements

  • 2+ years of software engineering experience, or equivalent demonstrated through one or a combination of the following: work experience, training, military experience, education
  • Proficiency in at least one modern programming language (e.g., Python, Java, C/C++, Go, or Rust)
  • Familiarity with cryptographic concepts (e.g., asymmetric/symmetric encryption, key management, hashing).
  • Experience writing and executing unit, integration, or performance tests.
  • Exposure to CI/CD pipelines, version control systems (e.g., Git), and DevOps practices.

Nice To Haves

  • Foundational knowledge of post‑quantum cryptography concepts, familiarity with how cryptography is applied within common security protocols (e.g., TLS, IPSec, SSH), and a demonstrated interest in quantum computing trends and their security implications.
  • Experience engaging with third‑party vendors, open‑source communities, or external technology partners, with the ability to conduct structured technical evaluations, clearly document findings, and critically assess vendor claims through hands‑on testing and informed technical inquiry.
  • Strong written documentation skills and attention to detail.
  • Experience with business software (Word, PowerPoint, SharePoint, Excel, Teams, etc.)
  • Ability to work in ambiguous or early‑stage technology environments.
  • Collaborative mindset with the ability to take direction and deliver independently scoped work.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Cybersecurity, or a related field (or equivalent practical experience).
  • Experience with security testing tools, cryptographic libraries, or security‑focused SDKs.
  • Exposure to research‑oriented or innovative teams (labs, advanced engineering, emerging tech).
  • Familiarity with compliance or standards efforts (e.g., NIST guidance, cryptographic standards).
  • Experience automating experiments, benchmarks, or lab environments.
  • Understanding of cloud platforms and security services (e.g., AWS, Azure, GCP).

Responsibilities

  • Support the testing, validation, and operational readiness of post‑quantum cryptography (PQC) and quantum security solutions across lab, pilot, and pre‑production environments.
  • Assist with onboarding, configuration, and ongoing support of tools used by the Quantum Security team.
  • Assist in the coordination and execution of structured evaluations of vendor solutions and emerging technologies, supporting testing activities and analysis with a focus on usability, performance, and operational fit within enterprise environments.
  • Partner closely with vendors and sourcing teams to evaluate quantum‑safe solutions through hands‑on testing, product walkthroughs, and technical due diligence.
  • Provide input into vendor selection, procurement decisions, and integration planning.
  • Assist with documenting research findings, contributing to invention disclosures, and supporting patent‑related efforts by capturing technical details, use cases, and differentiators of quantum security innovations, and tracking team submissions.
  • Produce clear, actionable documentation on evaluations, implementation considerations, risks, and recommendations to support decision‑making by security, architecture, and leadership teams.
  • Enhance day‑to‑day team operations by improving processes, documentation standards, and testing approaches.
  • Develop reusable templates, scripts, and lightweight tools to streamline evaluations and vendor onboarding.
  • Collaborate with architects, cryptographers, risk, legal, and procurement stakeholders to ensure alignment across technology, compliance, and sourcing activities.
  • Participate in working sessions, design reviews, and vendor discussions.
  • Demonstrate proficiency in using AI‑assisted tools (e.g., GitHub Copilot and approved internal tools) to accelerate analysis, documentation, testing, and troubleshooting activities.
  • Apply sound judgment when validating AI‑assisted outputs.
  • Account for model limitations, security risks, and operational considerations.
  • Ensure responsible and compliant use aligned with security, privacy, and governance standards.

Benefits

  • Equal Opportunity Employer
  • Support for building strong customer relationships
  • Risk mitigating and compliance-driven culture
  • Accountability for execution of all applicable risk programs
  • Proactive monitoring, governance, risk identification and escalation
  • Sound risk decisions commensurate with the business unit’s risk appetite and all risk and compliance program requirements.
