About The Position

The Supercompute Observability Software team builds and operates software systems that help keep SpaceX supercompute centers reliable at the scale required for frontier AI training and inference. The team develops platforms to predict, monitor, and respond to changing operational conditions and incidents across large, heterogeneous, always-on clusters. Its tools help engineers and technicians automate day-to-day work, expedite node remediation, and increase GPU uptime. Working closely with datacenter operations, AI research, and facility infrastructure teams, the role turns operational data into actionable insight and supports site-wide reliability and automated operations. The position includes building production services and analytical tools, creating real-time visualizations for operators and engineering stakeholders, and incorporating user feedback in person. The role is full-time and on-site at a SpaceX office, with travel to supercompute centers as needed.

Requirements

  • Use Super Intelligence (SI)-driven software development practices.
  • Programming experience in Python, Rust, C++, Java, or similar languages.
  • Experience working with database management systems such as Postgres, MySQL, MongoDB, or DynamoDB.
  • Proven ownership of correctness-sensitive systems, such as state machines, workflows, or operational data where inaccurate state has real-world impact.
  • Experience collaborating with cross-functional teams.
  • Ability to work extended hours or weekends as needed for mission-critical deadlines.
  • Ability to work full-time on-site at a SpaceX office.
  • Ability to travel to supercompute centers, up to 25–50% based on need.

Nice To Haves

  • Bachelor's degree in computer science, engineering, math, or a STEM discipline and at least 3 years of professional software development experience, or at least 5 years of professional software development experience in lieu of a degree.
  • Experience building or operating large-scale observability, telemetry, or real-time analytics systems.
  • Experience with time-series or analytical databases such as Prometheus/VictoriaMetrics, ClickHouse, or InfluxDB, and streaming or high-volume telemetry pipelines.
  • Experience building observability dashboards and alerting with Grafana, New Relic, Splunk, or similar tools.
  • Frontend experience with React, Angular, or a comparable JavaScript framework, building intuitive UIs for critical operations.
  • Experience operating services on cloud or on-premises infrastructure with Docker/Kubernetes in production and automated CI/CD deployments such as ArgoCD or GitHub Actions.
  • Experience with HPC or supercomputing environments, including schedulers such as Slurm, GPU/accelerator telemetry, high-speed fabrics, or parallel filesystems.
  • Experience integrating with industrial/OT data sources, such as SCADA platforms (including Ignition), tag historians, Modbus/OPC-UA, or power/cooling infrastructure telemetry.

Responsibilities

  • Design, build, and operate multi-service production systems—including user interfaces, APIs, data pipelines, authentication, and on-call systems—for reliability, uptime monitoring, predictive alerting, upgrade and change management, risk management, and site-wide impact assessments.
  • Design, build, and operate predictive and analytical tools that inform the design and operation of current and future supercompute centers.
  • Develop frontend visualizations, interactive dashboards, and UI components that present processed data in clear, real-time views for operators, capacity planners, and engineering stakeholders.
  • Work in person with users day to day to incorporate feedback and improve processes that increase GPU uptime.
