About The Position

The Software Engineer IV is a principal engineer who architects, designs, and leads the implementation of enterprise software systems, and who owns the technical direction of a team with broad latitude for independent judgment. This is an individual-contributor role: it carries no formal people-management responsibility, but the engineer is expected to provide strong technical leadership and mentorship to the engineers on their team. They are accountable for the technical quality, scalability, security, and operating cost of systems supporting Young Living’s global commerce and supply chain operations across more than 30 markets, processing over 6 million orders and over $800 million in transaction volume annually.

Requirements

  • Mastery of system architecture and cross-system design: distributed systems, integration patterns, data architecture, and designing for scale and failure.
  • Broad technical range across modern languages, frameworks, and data technologies, sufficient to judge a team’s technology choices and contribute to selection standards without depending on any one stack.
  • Experience designing and developing cloud-native applications on a major cloud platform.
  • Deep expertise with agentic coding tools and a track record of raising the effectiveness of a team with them.
  • Experience accountable for the operating cost and efficiency of a portfolio of production systems, and working with vendors and third-party platforms.
  • Experience contributing to engineering strategy, with strong communication and presentation skills with senior stakeholders.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or related field.
  • 10+ years of experience in software engineering.
  • Extensive professional use of agentic coding tools, including establishing their use across a team.
  • A combination of education and experience may meet this requirement.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with enterprise systems, multi-market platforms, supply chain or commerce systems, or environments of comparable complexity.
  • Professional certification in cloud or enterprise architecture.
  • Experience in a highly regulated environment or large-scale SaaS platforms.
  • Experience leading cross-functional technical projects.

Responsibilities

  • Own the technical direction and delivery of their team, and architect, design, and lead implementation of the enterprise-grade systems it builds.
  • Lead design reviews, and apply the department’s standards for system design, security, and technology selection, contributing improvements to them.
  • Own the AI-assisted development workflow and shared agentic tooling for their team, hold that tooling to a standard others can safely build on, and contribute it and the standards behind it to the department.
  • Lead incident response and root cause analysis for major production issues.
  • Take accountability for what their team’s systems cost to run: understand the cost consequences of their architecture, cloud, and tooling decisions, and drive that cost down over the life of the system.
  • Serve as the team’s principal technical authority with security, infrastructure, vendor, and business stakeholders, including in the evaluation and selection of third-party platforms and services.
  • Provide technical mentorship and leadership to the engineers on their team, without formal people-management responsibility.
  • Dedicate a portion of working time, as directed by IT leadership, to developing skills in new and emerging technologies and development practices.
