Software Engineer Intern - Fall 2026 (Part Time)

Cimento AISalt Lake City, UT
Remote

About The Position

Cimento AI is revolutionizing cybersecurity training by using AI to build resilient, security-conscious teams. We're backed by operators and angels from Cloudflare, CrowdStrike, Okta, etc. We value creative spark over credentials and high agency over process. If you've shipped side projects, contributed to open source, or built things that matter to you, we want to talk. This isn't a typical internship. You'll work on real features that customers use, contribute to core platform architecture, and see how an early-stage security startup actually gets built. We're looking for a full time Software Engineering Intern for Fall 2026 who generates ideas (not just code), treats AI as a tool for velocity, and ships instead of waiting on permission.

Requirements

  • Pursuing a Bachelor's or Master's in CS, Software Engineering, or related field (graduating in 2027 preferred)
  • You've built something real - a side project you shipped, open source contributions, a hackathon project people actually used, anything that shows you can go from idea to working code
  • You default to action: when you hit a blocker, you try three things before asking for help
  • You're comfortable with "figure it out" as a valid answer - we're early, so ambiguity is the norm
  • You treat AI coding tools as productivity multipliers, not crutches

Nice To Haves

  • You've worked on security tooling, AI/ML projects, or enterprise SaaS
  • You know (or want to learn) our stack: Go, TypeScript, NextJS, Postgres, AWS
  • You have a GitHub we can browse, a blog where you explain technical decisions, or a portfolio that shows your taste
  • You've used LLMs in production or have strong opinions about prompt engineering

Responsibilities

  • Build and ship features for adaptive phishing simulations that use LLMs to evolve based on user risk and behavior
  • Help design infrastructure for ingesting real-time behavioral signals like decision latency and user telemetry
  • Create interfaces that security teams use to visualize and act on human risk data
  • Participate in customer calls and turn feedback directly into shipped features
  • Write clean, scalable code across the full stack (Go, TypeScript, NextJS, Postgres)
  • Use AI coding tools (Cursor, Claude Code) to accelerate development and focus on high-impact work

Benefits

  • Real ownership over meaningful work (not busy work)
  • Direct mentorship from the founding team
  • Flexible remote-friendly schedule that works around classes
  • Front-row seat to early-stage startup building
  • Potential to convert to full-time
