About The Position

Apollo Research is seeking a Software Engineer to build and maintain the core platform that supports the organization's operations. This role is critical for enabling Apollo's growth, scaling operations, and ensuring the security of valuable assets. The platform is essential for determining how quickly new research can be undertaken and strengthening the trust of partners, which is vital to Apollo's mission of reducing risks from frontier AI systems.

Requirements

  • 7+ years of experience in infrastructure, platform, or DevOps engineering
  • Strong working experience with AWS, Azure, or GCP, in a multi-account and multi-project setup.
  • Experience with Infrastructure as Code (Terraform, Pulumi, or similar)
  • Experience with containerisation technologies like Docker
  • Experience designing and owning infrastructure for a growing engineering team, not just contributing to an existing setup
  • Experience building systems in programming languages like Python, Rust, Go.
  • Proven experience building and operating services with responsibility for uptime, reliability, and scaling.

Nice To Haves

  • Exposure to agentic AI workflows or building platforms that support AI/ML workflows
  • Familiarity with GPU workloads, ML training infrastructure, or research compute
  • Demonstrated interest in AI safety (e.g. worked at an AI safety org, relevant coursework or research)

Responsibilities

  • Help set the vision for the platform by understanding future research needs and proposing development plans.
  • Build and maintain Apollo's cloud infrastructure, including Infrastructure as Code (IaC), networking, environment management, observability, and cost control, ensuring reproducibility, auditability, and automation.
  • Protect Apollo's assets by designing and implementing secure infrastructure controls to maintain the trust of frontier labs.
  • Maintain the operational stability of Apollo's services, responding to incidents and determining appropriate fixes.
  • Create infrastructure for agent tooling to enable safe, reliable, and maintainable agent development and deployment, collaborating with the security lead.
