About The Position

The Infrastructure team at Mercury is responsible for building and maintaining the scalable, secure, and maintainable foundations for the entire organization. They are currently focused on enhancing platform features to simplify code deployment for agents and humans, emphasizing security, observability, and ease of use without compromising deployment speed. The team manages everything from networking to container orchestration and supports AWS needs for product teams. They are looking for an engineer passionate about building maintainable systems, committed to quality, and helpful to product counterparts. This role is for someone who enjoys in-depth work, frequent shipping, and improving systems, with a focus on quality that doesn't lead to bureaucracy. The ideal candidate is comfortable debugging Linux issues and assisting product engineers with production behavior. The team works with technologies primarily on AWS, including EC2, RDS, OpenSearch, ECS, and EKS, favoring cloud-native open-source tools. They extensively use Terraform for infrastructure as code, GitHub and GitHub Actions for version control and delivery, and Prometheus, Grafana, OpenSearch, and OpenTelemetry for production monitoring. There is also a growing focus on agentic infrastructure, enabling AI agents to interact safely with their systems and providing guardrails for both agents and human operators. As Mercury prepares for future growth, the engineer will contribute to building the "Infrastructure Platform" to meet the evolving needs of the Engineering Organization, with a specific focus on creating an AI-friendly yet engineer-usable platform. Key responsibilities include delivering infrastructure projects, breaking down complex initiatives, and defining infrastructure strategy through RFCs and technical specifications.
