Software Engineer III (Agentic AI)

UKG•Seattle, WA
•$102,000 - $169,108

About The Position

UKG is seeking a Software Engineer III to join its Agentic Acceleration Group and build and scale agentic AI capabilities using Google’s Agent Development Kit (ADK) and other enterprise agent platforms. The role develops agent-powered features and projects, contributes to technical design decisions, and helps establish modern agent development practices. It covers the design, development, testing, deployment, and maintenance of complex agentic systems in collaboration with product, architecture, and engineering partners. The engineer will build production-grade agents and integrations for UKG’s HCM platform, support agent operations and service quality, and apply testing, observability, and lifecycle-management practices. The position also includes project ownership, code review, documentation, knowledge sharing, and technical guidance to less-experienced engineers.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related technical field, or equivalent practical experience.
  • At least 4 years of professional software development experience, including hands-on experience building LLM-powered applications or agentic AI systems.
  • Deep expertise in one or more programming languages such as Python, Java, C#, JavaScript, or TypeScript.
  • Experience building or contributing to production applications using Google ADK, Anthropic Claude SDK, LangChain, LangGraph, or similar agentic frameworks.
  • Understanding of agent orchestration patterns, tool-use architectures, prompt and context engineering, and agent design patterns such as ReAct and multi-agent collaboration.
  • Experience integrating software or agents with enterprise systems through APIs, tools, and protocols such as REST APIs, MCP, and function calling.
  • Experience with software architecture and design patterns, including contributing to scalable, reliable agentic systems in a DevOps model.
  • Experience delivering complex software features or projects and working effectively with product, architecture, and engineering stakeholders.
  • Proficiency with cloud technologies such as GCP (including Vertex AI and Google ADK), Azure (including Azure OpenAI), or AWS (including Bedrock), and version control systems such as GitHub.
  • Strong problem-solving skills, attention to detail, and commitment to high-quality agent-powered solutions.
  • Experience building telemetry and observability for software or agentic systems, including execution tracing, decision logging, cost monitoring, or success-rate tracking.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills, including explaining technical concepts, collaborating in a team, and incorporating feedback into design and implementation decisions.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with agent evaluation frameworks, prompt testing, tool validation, or adversarial testing.
  • Familiarity with CI/CD pipelines, automated testing, and production observability tools.
  • Knowledge of agile software development methodologies.
  • Familiarity with developing accessible technologies.
  • Dedication to diversity and inclusion initiatives.

Responsibilities

  • Design, build, test, and deploy production-grade AI agents using Google ADK and other agentic platforms, including Anthropic Claude SDK and LangGraph; write clean, maintainable code for agent workflows, tool integrations, and multi-agent orchestration.
  • Integrate agents with enterprise systems through tools, APIs, and Model Context Protocol (MCP) servers; implement custom tools, skills, and plugins for UKG’s HCM platform.
  • Own execution and delivery of agent-powered features and projects, clarifying requirements, managing priorities and timelines, and delivering high-quality results with product and engineering partners.
  • Participate in design reviews and contribute to designs for complex agentic systems, including multi-agent coordination, task delegation, and agent communication protocols, with attention to performance, scalability, reliability, and maintainability.
  • Review other engineers’ code and provide constructive feedback; promote clean coding, suitable design patterns, unit testing, and observability.
  • Maintain the health and quality of agent-powered services by identifying issues, evaluating service indicators and agent metrics, conducting root cause analysis, and helping prevent recurring failures.
  • Support agent deployment, monitoring, and lifecycle management, including versioning, cost monitoring, performance optimization, iterative improvement, execution tracing, decision logging, and failure analysis.
  • Build testable agents and agentic systems; define and automate agent-specific tests such as prompt validation, agent evaluation, multi-step workflow testing, tool invocation and validation, and adversarial scenario testing.
  • Take ownership across the software lifecycle, from requirements and design through development, testing, deployment, and production maintenance.
  • Document features, enhancements, fixes, agent behaviors, and operational procedures; share knowledge and contribute to training materials and team practices.
  • Collaborate across engineering and product teams and provide technical guidance to less-experienced engineers on agent development, integrations, testing, observability, and safety practices.
  • Stay current with agentic AI technologies and evaluate or adopt platforms and capabilities such as Google ADK, Anthropic Claude SDK, LangGraph, AutoGen, and CrewAI when they improve productivity, quality, or customer value.
