Pratt Miller, an Oshkosh company, is a product development firm specializing in motorsports, defense, and mobility industries. They offer clients product engineering and low-volume production solutions, encompassing research & development, engineering, prototype manufacturing, test & validation, and low-rate production. The Principal Engineer – Software is responsible for developing embedded software for various on-vehicle applications. This role requires the ability to create vehicle-level designs and provide feedback on System Requirements. The Sr. Software Engineer will lead the implementation and integration of embedded software written in C/C++ and Matlab autogenerated code. The position is responsible for the completion of moderately complex projects on time, potentially managing overall project schedules, budgets, and multiple priorities. The role involves performing complex engineering calculations, investigations, and tasks according to industry standards, and preparing and delivering plans, designs, computation methods, and reports. Collaboration with internal engineering and business support teams, as well as external suppliers, is expected. There may be opportunities for customer interaction and engagement with industry organizations. The role includes providing guidance and mentorship to entry-level engineers on common projects. Independent research and development on new technologies are encouraged, establishing requirements for real-time operating systems (RTOS), Autosar, embedded systems, open-source tools, Internet of Things (IoT), edge computing, and architecture virtualization. The position involves carrying out technical aspects of advanced vehicle system controls research and development, including implementation using embedded software tools, version control, configuration management, verification and validation, DevOps, and CI/CD software. Work will be conducted independently with minimal supervision on advanced control development efforts using embedded software and model-based development tool suites. Responsibilities include assisting in the development or integration of control strategies and implementation in virtual simulation environments using modeling tools (e.g., AMESIM, Matlab/Simulink/Stateflow) or hardware-in-the-loop simulators, and transferring simulated strategies to vehicle testing and production. The role may lead or direct feasibility studies, project estimates (manpower, budget, timelines), and proposal development for advanced control development efforts. Technical insight and mentoring to lower-level engineers based on expertise are also part of the role. The engineer will design, implement, and document real-time embedded software in C/C++ and Matlab autogenerated code, supporting supervisors, engineers, and other departments. The design and implementation of software must meet requirements for functionality, memory utilization, performance, and maintainability. Reading and creating software designs in UML is required. Technical assistance for prototype, pilot, and production software is expected, along with adherence to good software practices like version control, change control, and issue tracking. Development will follow a CMMI Level 3 process. Support for programs may involve travel to off-site locations. Participation in project time estimation, technical proposals, and decision analysis is required. Other duties as assigned, and regular attendance are mandatory.
