About The Position

The Caching Team at Box provides a high-performance, highly-available, and scalable caching platform used throughout the Box platform. This team serves as the caching layer within the core relational data tier, processing tens of millions of requests per second and powering critical, high-throughput, low-latency workflows. The team's goal is to offer user-friendly solutions to complex challenges related to serving heavy loads with strict consistency and high performance requirements, enabling developers across Box to concentrate on their business objectives. With Box's increasing usage, the team must be prepared to handle unprecedented scale while maintaining the enterprise-grade reliability expected by customers. This role offers a unique opportunity to help design and build the next-generation caching architecture, taking ownership of critical initiatives to enhance the performance, scale, and reliability of services. The position involves partnering with engineering teams across the organization to understand their needs and drive architectural improvements for the usability and impact of the platform. Work on this mission-critical engineering team will significantly impact engineering at Box and its over 40 million users.

Requirements

Bachelor's degree or equivalent in Computer Science, Mathematics, or a related field
3+ years of professional software development experience
Strong understanding of common algorithms, data structures, and code design principles
Strong grasp of high-scale distributed systems

Nice To Haves

Experience with JVM-based languages such as Java and Scala
Familiarity with caching solutions such as Memcached and Redis
Passionate about scale and performance challenges

Responsibilities

Contribute to the future of Box’s Caching architecture during the migration of Memcached and Redis fleets to next-generation caching solutions.
Develop solutions to address scale, performance, and resilience challenges associated with protecting an exponentially growing data tier that serves tens of millions of requests per second.
Partner with client teams to understand their traffic patterns and provide guidance on effective caching strategies.
Deliver high technical excellence in operating production-critical services and identify opportunities for continuous reliability improvement.
Collaborate with team members on technical design and architecture decisions to help shape the team’s technical direction.
Participate in the on-call rotation, being available at all times while on-call to help respond to and triage any issues that arise.
