Software Engineer III (Java)
About The Position
As a Software Engineer III on JPMorganChase’s Finance Technology team, you will serve as a seasoned member of an agile team, designing and delivering trusted, market-leading technology products in a secure, stable, and scalable way. You will carry out critical technology solutions across multiple technical areas and business functions in support of the firm’s business objectives. The role includes designing, developing, testing, and troubleshooting software, producing architecture and design artifacts for complex applications, and ensuring that software meets design constraints. You will use enterprise-authorized AI-assisted development tools to improve code quality, delivery speed, and productivity, while validating AI-generated outputs through peer review, automated testing, and secure coding practices. You will also use data analysis and visualizations to improve applications, systems, coding hygiene, and system architecture.
Requirements
- Formal training or certification in software engineering concepts and at least 3 years of applied experience.
- Hands-on practical experience in system design, application development, testing, and operational stability.
- Experience developing, debugging, and maintaining code in a large corporate environment using Java and database querying languages.
- Hands-on experience with enterprise-authorized AI-assisted software development tools, with the ability to critically evaluate, validate, and refine generated outputs for correctness, performance, and security.
- Understanding of responsible AI use in engineering workflows, including data sensitivity, secure handling of inputs and outputs, and resiliency and security expectations.
- Ability to guide peers on safe and effective AI tool use within team practices.
- Overall knowledge of the Software Development Life Cycle.
- Solid understanding of agile methodologies, including CI/CD, application resiliency, and security.

- Familiarity with SQL, MongoDB, and backend frameworks.
Responsibilities
- Execute software solution design, development, and technical troubleshooting, using approaches that go beyond routine or conventional solutions.
- Create secure, high-quality production code and maintain algorithms that run synchronously with appropriate systems.
- Use enterprise-authorized AI coding assistance to improve code quality, delivery speed, and productivity across complex deliverables, validating outputs through peer review, automated testing, and secure coding standards.
- Contribute learnings and reusable patterns to improve broader team effectiveness.
- Apply knowledge of Software Development Life Cycle tools, including authorized AI-assisted development and automation capabilities, to improve the value realized by automation.
- Produce architecture and design artifacts for complex applications and ensure design constraints are met in software development.
- Gather, analyze, synthesize, and visualize large, diverse data sets to support continuous improvement of software applications and systems.
- Identify hidden problems and patterns in data and use insights to improve coding hygiene and system architecture.
