About The Position

Building the right technology foundation for Infrastructure & platforms is vital to success at the scale of Walmart. Our team builds and maintains the foundational technologies that support the tech organization. Included in this are data platforms, enterprise architecture, DevOps, cloud computing, and infrastructure. All of these products and services are supported by scalable and powerful infrastructure, ensuring a secure and seamless employee and customer experience across stores, digital channels, and distribution centers. Join Walmart Global Tech's Data Platform Services organization as an Edge Cloud Computing System - Software Engineer III to develop Edge cloud database systems that autonomously monitor, predict, and resolve issues across the world's largest retailer's technology ecosystem, impacting millions of customers and associates globally. You'll lead the transformation of traditional Database Managing/Supporting practices into cutting-edge, self-healing platforms that serve as the intelligent backbone for database administration across all of Walmart's systems, from e-commerce to stores to supply chain.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science/Engineering or equivalent experience
  • 3+ years of experience as a software engineer, ideally with exposure to frontend/full-stack development
  • Proficiency in Python, Java, JavaScript/TypeScript, Ansible, and familiarity with GoLang
  • Experience with React or similar JavaScript frameworks
  • Understanding of containerization and experience with Kubernetes
  • Familiarity with building or integrating AI agents is a plus
  • Experience with RDBMS database architecture (e.g., Postgres, MariaDB)
  • Understanding of caching, logging, performance tuning, and monitoring
  • Experience with GitHub and version control best practices
  • Exposure to unit testing and CI/CD systems such as Jenkins
  • Comfortable working in a distributed team and communicating asynchronously
  • Eagerness to learn, collaborate, and grow within the team
  • Option 1: Bachelor's degree in computer science, computer engineering, computer information systems, software engineering, or related area and 2 years’ experience in software engineering or related area.
  • Option 2: 4 years’ experience in software engineering or related area.

Nice To Haves

  • Informix (nice to have but not mandatory)
  • Master’s degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Computer Information Systems, Software Engineering, or related area
  • Knowledge in implementing Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.2 AA standards, assistive technologies, and integrating digital accessibility seamlessly.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and maintain database solutions and platforms that support Walmart’s technology ecosystem.
  • Contribute to the implementation of architecture patterns that enable scalability, maintainability, and performance.
  • Assist in building observability and monitoring interfaces for anomaly detection and predictive analytics.
  • Help design and build APIs for edge database solutions, integrating with the broader operational ecosystem.
  • Write code that is readable, maintainable, testable, scalable, and efficient.
  • Follow frontend/backend best practices, including unit testing, performance optimization, and monitoring.
  • Contribute to the development of agents and automation using AI technologies.
  • Troubleshoot and analyze performance issues in distributed applications.
  • Support the implementation of CI/CD pipelines for database systems, including automated deployment and validation.
  • Participate in the adoption of new technologies and frameworks to improve operational solutions.
  • Work with engineering partners across domains (e.g., supply chain, pharmacy, security, infrastructure) to deliver solutions.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to design APIs and data contracts.
  • Work with designers and product managers to improve user experience.
  • Stay current with new technologies and contribute ideas for continuous improvement.
  • Participate in code reviews, technical discussions, and knowledge sharing.
  • Engage in design reviews and contribute to technical discussions within the team.
  • Learn from senior engineers and contribute to a culture of continuous improvement.
