Software Engineer II, Cloud & AI

Microsoft•Redmond, WA

About The Position

Microsoft Cloud Operations + Innovation (CO+I) builds infrastructure and platforms that power Microsoft’s cloud. CO+I Engineering develops secure, scalable, intelligent services supporting planning, execution, and operational workflows for data center capacity delivery and expansion. The Software Engineer II will develop automation and workflow capabilities for large-scale data center capacity delivery. The role involves working through ambiguity, solving complex technical problems, and collaborating with product managers, engineers, and business stakeholders to turn requirements into reliable, maintainable, and intuitive software. The position includes full-stack web application development, secure service and AI integrations, operational support, and adoption of emerging engineering and AI practices. Experience with Microsoft Power Platform or Dynamics 365 is a plus but is not required. The role requires passing the Microsoft Cloud Background Check upon hire or transfer and every two years thereafter. The position is open for at least five days, with applications accepted until filled.

Requirements

  • 2+ years of experience designing and building solutions on Azure or other cloud platforms.
  • 2+ years of experience with software engineering fundamentals, including software design, code quality, testing, security, reliability, observability, and DevOps practices.
  • 1+ years of experience using AI-assisted development tools to improve engineering productivity and software quality.
  • Ability to meet Microsoft, customer, and/or government security screening requirements, including the Microsoft Cloud Background Check upon hire or transfer and every two years thereafter.

Nice To Haves

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or a related technical field and 5+ years of technical engineering experience coding in languages including C, C++, C#, Java, JavaScript, or Python, or equivalent experience.
  • Experience building scalable applications and services using Web APIs, React or comparable front-end technologies, data platforms, and relational databases.
  • Experience with Power Platform and/or Dynamics 365.
  • Experience building applications or features using generative AI, AI agents, Azure OpenAI, Azure AI Search, Microsoft Foundry, or related technologies.
  • Experience owning software features through design, implementation, deployment, and production support.
  • Ability to communicate technical concepts clearly, troubleshoot system-integration problems, and collaborate effectively across engineering, product, and business disciplines.
  • Demonstrated ability to learn and apply new technologies, engineering patterns, and development practices in a rapidly evolving environment.

Responsibilities

  • Collaborate with product managers, engineering teams, and business stakeholders to understand requirements and deliver reliable, maintainable, intuitive software solutions.
  • Design, develop, test, deploy, and operate modern web applications using C#, .NET, ASP.NET Core, REST APIs, and front-end technologies such as React, TypeScript, or JavaScript.
  • Apply engineering fundamentals across the software development lifecycle, including automation, observability, testing, resiliency, security, accessibility, and secure-by-default design.
  • Design and implement secure service integrations using REST APIs, OpenAPI specifications, OAuth 2.0, Microsoft Entra ID, managed identities, role-based access control, and API management patterns.
  • Build AI-powered applications and agents using Microsoft Foundry, Foundry Agent Service, Azure OpenAI, Azure AI Search, Microsoft Agent Framework, or related technologies; incorporate grounding, tool integration, evaluation, monitoring, and responsible AI practices.
  • Use AI-assisted development tools to improve requirements analysis, coding, code review, testing, debugging, documentation, modernization, and live-site investigation.
  • Develop tools and integrations that securely connect AI experiences with enterprise APIs, data sources, workflows, and business systems, following identity, authorization, data protection, and least-privilege principles.
  • Work with other engineering teams to identify dependencies, troubleshoot system-integration challenges, and contribute to technical designs for applications, services, APIs, and platform capabilities.
  • Participate in design and code reviews, release planning, testing, deployment, telemetry implementation, and production-readiness activities.
  • Participate in live-site and DRI rotations, investigate service issues, perform root cause analysis, and implement durable fixes that improve reliability and operational health.
  • Learn and apply emerging engineering and AI patterns to improve availability, observability, security, performance, evaluation quality, and operational consistency.
  • Share reusable code, agent tools, evaluation assets, engineering practices, and technical learnings with the broader engineering community.
