This role involves completing and overseeing basic to complex systems analysis, design, and development. The Software Engineer II will play a key role as an individual contributor on complex projects, maintaining an excellent functional understanding of the supported application(s). Responsibilities include directing and monitoring less experienced resources, coordinating development tasks on projects of varying scope, and preparing and managing the technical component of project plans. The position requires participation with other Development, Operations, and Technology staff in overall systems development direction, from technical analysis to user acceptance testing. This includes preparing and reviewing test data, executing detailed test plans, and completing any required debugging. The role demands an understanding of complex interrelationships and effects among programs, interfacing applications, and platforms. Additionally, the engineer will provide highly analytical consulting and leadership in identifying and implementing new uses of information technologies to assist business units in meeting strategic objectives. Preparation of thorough, clear technical and functional specifications, and updating systems documentation are key. The role also involves preparing charts, tables, and diagrams to assist in analyzing problems, and reviewing documentation prepared by less experienced staff. Assessments including required tasks, estimated time frames, and effort for any scope project will be prepared and reviewed. Maintaining efficient operation and effectiveness of supported applications is crucial. Recommendations for new technology, policies, or processes to benefit the organization and improve deficiencies are expected, and may include technical evaluations of vendor software. Following and promoting the use of development standards and procedures is required. A good understanding of the business being supported, its functions, processes, operations, and strategic direction must be maintained. The role may also assist in developing expense and capital budgets. Understanding and adhering to the Company’s risk and regulatory standards, policies, and controls, in accordance with the Company’s Risk Appetite, and identifying risk-related issues needing escalation to management are essential. Maintaining M&T internal control standards, including timely implementation of internal and external audit points and issues raised by external regulators, is also required.
