About The Position

Guidewire’s development team is looking for a smart, proactive, and results-oriented Software Engineer II to build elegant solutions for the property & casualty insurance industry’s complex business domain and make our industry-leading products even better. The team is looking for an enthusiastic engineer who is passionate about building high-quality software with a great team and improving the customer experience for millions of people who use our products every day. The team you will be joining sits within Guidewire’s Product Development and Operations (PDO) organization, which builds and runs the cloud platform that powers the world’s most trusted P&C insurance software. The team focuses on SBT Content and insurance content transformation for U.S. Commercial insurers, which requires large-scale data volumes, heavy server load, and complex business logic. You will work in a highly collaborative and agile environment with a team of Software Engineers, and you will contribute to the design and implementation of high-performance software solutions that align with our product goals and technical best practices. As part of PDO’s shift toward AI-driven development, you will use AI-native coding approaches and AI-assisted tools (such as Claude Code or GitHub Copilot) to build, refactor, and extend our services quickly and safely while maintaining high engineering standards, tests, and observability. Your work will support PDO’s mission to embed GenAI across our products, improve operational excellence, and deliver secure, reliable, and scalable cloud services at scale. You must be a self-starter and able to perform with minimal supervision while working alongside intelligent colleagues who’ve checked their egos at the door in a team environment, communicating effectively with everyone.

Requirements

  • Minimum 2+ years of Software Development experience, preferably in SaaS or cloud solutions
  • Proficiency in Core Java, and good working knowledge of the Spring framework
  • Experience with JavaScript, TypeScript, or Python
  • Experience building microservices on cloud service platforms (e.g. AWS/GCP/Azure) – AWS preferred
  • Experience with containerization and orchestration (Docker and Kubernetes)
  • Experience designing REST or gRPC based APIs
  • Ability to use AI-assisted coding tools (e.g. Claude Code, GitHub Copilot) to accelerate development while exercising strong judgment around code quality, testing, and security
  • Good understanding of Object-Oriented Design principles
  • Understanding of relational database persistence (e.g. MySQL, Oracle); familiarity with NoSQL databases (e.g. MongoDB, CouchDB) is a plus
  • Great understanding of CI/CD and DevOps principles; experience with related tools such as TeamCity, Git-based workflows, or Kubernetes is a definite plus
  • BS/MS degree (Computer Science or related field)

  • Experience working in an agile and fast-paced development environment (e.g. TDD, BDD, Agile, pair programming, etc.)

  • Experience with LLMs, LangChain, and/or AI patterns such as RAG or ReAct is a plus
  • Exposure to AI/ML development patterns such as prompt engineering or integrating AI services into production systems is a plus
