URBN Software Engineer II

URBN•Philadelphia, PA

About The Position

URBN is hiring a Software Engineer to join the Enterprise Core Services team. We are looking for an engineer with 2-5 years of experience to help build and maintain our Kafka-based event streaming platform and support the migration of legacy enterprise systems into modern, cloud-native services. You will work closely with senior and staff engineers, product managers, and platform engineers to deliver reliable, well-tested integration services, while growing your skills in distributed systems and enterprise integration.

Requirements

  • 2-5 years of professional software engineering experience.
  • Working proficiency in Python, with experience building and maintaining services or APIs.
  • Exposure to event-driven systems or message queues (Kafka experience a plus, not required) and a willingness to build deeper expertise here.
  • Familiarity with cloud platforms (GCP preferred) and modern CI/CD and testing practices.
  • Comfortable using or learning agentic coding tools (e.g., Claude Code, Codex, Cursor) as part of the day-to-day workflow.
  • Strong fundamentals: clear written communication, careful code review habits, and a bias toward asking questions when scope or requirements are unclear.
  • Eagerness to learn distributed systems and enterprise integration patterns from senior team members.

  • Collaborate with Product Managers, Platform Engineers, and other Software Engineers on day-to-day feature and integration work.
  • Investigate and fix defects surfaced during development, testing, or production support, escalating ambiguous or architectural questions to senior engineers.
