About The Position

US Bank is seeking a Software Engineer to join our Risk & Operations Systems team within Commercial Credit & Risk Services. This team supports a suite of highly critical internal applications used across commercial banking to drive overdraft decisioning, payment approvals, and credit risk evaluation. This person will design, develop, and maintain Java-based enterprise applications that support core commercial banking operations. They will contribute to both new feature development and ongoing modernization efforts, while also supporting production systems that are used daily by thousands of internal users.

Requirements

  • 3–6 years of experience in software development
  • Strong Java development experience (core backend)
  • Hands-on experience with Spring Boot and/or Spring MVC
  • Experience building and supporting enterprise web applications
  • Strong SQL / relational database experience (SQL Server or similar)
  • Experience working in production environments with live systems
  • Comfortable participating in on-call support and troubleshooting incidents
  • Experience working in Agile/Scrum teams

Nice To Haves

  • Front-end experience with React or similar frameworks
  • Experience with AWS or Azure cloud platforms
  • Docker or containerization experience
  • Familiarity with Git and modern development workflows
  • Experience with application modernization or large-scale upgrades
  • Exposure to high-volume, business-critical systems (financial services preferred)

Responsibilities

  • Develop, enhance, and maintain Java-based web applications supporting commercial credit and risk systems
  • Build and modify features for overdraft decisioning platforms across ACH, wires, and DDA channels
  • Participate in application modernization efforts, including framework upgrades and cloud migration initiatives
  • Collaborate within an Agile/Scrum team including engineers, QA, and business partners
  • Support production systems, including participating in on-call rotation and incident resolution
  • Troubleshoot and resolve application issues in live environments
  • Ensure applications meet internal security, compliance, and credit policy requirements
  • Contribute to deployments across both on-prem and cloud environments
