React Software Engineer II

JPMorgan Chase & Co.•Jersey City, NJ
•$123,500 - $150,000

About The Position

You’re ready to gain the skills and experience needed to grow within your role and advance your career — and we have the perfect software engineering opportunity for you. As a Software Engineer II at JPMorganChase within Commercial & Investment Bank - Market Monitor Team, you are part of an agile team that designs and delivers trusted, market-leading technology products in a secure, stable, and scalable way. As an emerging-to-intermediate member of the team, you execute software solutions through the design, development, testing, and technical troubleshooting of multiple components within a technical product, application, or system, with a strong emphasis on AI-enabled engineering practices, modern front-end delivery excellence, and GraphQL-first data access.

Requirements

  • Formal training or certification on software engineering concepts and 2+ years applied experience (or equivalent experience).
  • Strong hands-on experience building web applications with React + TypeScript, including component composition, hooks, and state management fundamentals.
  • Micro-frontend (MFE) experience (required), including understanding of independently deployable UI modules, runtime integration patterns, and operating in a multi-team environment with shared standards.
  • Experience working in or supporting an independent release cycle for UI components or applications, including CI/CD-driven releases and disciplined change management.
  • Experience with modern front-end testing and systematic debugging/troubleshooting, including unit/component testing (e.g., Jest + React Testing Library or equivalent) and exposure to e2e testing (e.g., Playwright or Cypress).
  • Demonstrated understanding of SDLC practices and CI/CD for front-end applications, including code review, automated quality checks, and release hygiene.
  • Working knowledge of building accessible and performant UIs (WCAG awareness, semantic HTML, basic profiling, bundle/perf considerations).
  • Hands-on experience using enterprise-authorized AI-assisted software development tools (coding, test creation, troubleshooting, documentation) with the ability to validate and refine AI-generated outputs for correctness, performance, and security.
  • Understanding of responsible AI use in engineering workflows, including data sensitivity considerations, secure handling of inputs/outputs, and adherence to resiliency and security expectations.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience contributing to or consuming a design system (component libraries, tokens, theming).
  • Familiarity with GraphQL client ecosystems (e.g., Apollo Client, Relay, or equivalent) and GraphQL-focused developer tooling (e.g., code generation for typed operations).
  • Familiarity with modern UI architecture patterns beyond MFE (SSR frameworks such as Next.js, BFF patterns).
  • Familiarity with web observability concepts (RUM, client logging, basic correlation with backend signals).
  • Demonstrated ability to improve test reliability, reduce regressions, and raise overall code quality within a team setting.

Responsibilities

  • Delivers UI features using React and TypeScript, aligned to a design system, front-end engineering standards, and secure coding practices.
  • Implements GraphQL-first client integrations to fetch and manage application data, including query/mutation design, variable management, caching strategies, pagination, error handling, and performance optimization.
  • Contributes to UI technical design (component architecture, state management patterns, GraphQL integration patterns, routing, and failure handling) and documents implementation details for maintainability.
  • Contributes to a micro-frontend (MFE) ecosystem, building independently deployable UI modules and integrating them with host applications using agreed standards (e.g., module boundaries, shared dependencies, routing and runtime integration patterns).
  • Supports an independent release cycle for UI modules by following strong SDLC practices (versioning, automated quality gates, release readiness checks, rollback strategies where applicable, and coordination with dependent teams).
  • Drives quality through automated testing (unit/component/e2e), accessibility practices, performance optimization, and client-side telemetry/monitoring with guidance from senior engineers.
  • Applies strong SDLC practices for UI delivery (code review discipline, CI/CD usage, linting/type checks, automated tests, quality gates) and helps reduce flaky tests and regressions.
  • Leverages enterprise-authorized AI-assisted development tools to accelerate refactoring, feature changes, debugging, test generation, and documentation, while validating AI outputs through human review, automated tests, and secure coding standards.
  • Applies responsible AI engineering practices in daily work, including safe handling of sensitive data in prompts/logs, injection-aware patterns for UIs that display generated content, and reliable failure modes (timeouts, fallbacks, graceful degradation).
  • Partners with backend engineers and product stakeholders to clarify requirements and deliver cohesive end-to-end experiences in a GraphQL-centric architecture.
  • Proactively identifies recurring issues (defects, UX pain points, performance bottlenecks) and contributes fixes and preventative improvements.
