About The Position

The Software Engineer II position involves delivering technically complex solutions and providing system integration support for all project work. The role requires consulting and partnering with business product owners to understand end goals and offer solutions and recommendations during the design phase. Responsibilities include developing customized coding, software integration, performing analysis, and configuring solutions using project-specific tools. The engineer will lead and participate in the development, testing, implementation, maintenance, and support of highly complex solutions, adhering to company standards and performing robust unit testing. Additionally, the role involves building non-functional monitoring capabilities, providing escalated support for complex applications in production, and building and maintaining security controls. The position typically involves leading moderately complex projects and participating in larger initiatives, solving complex technical and operational problems, and acting as a resource for less experienced teammates. In an Agile environment, the engineer is responsible for delivering high-quality working software, automating manual/reusable tasks, engaging with the business from the design phase, leveraging continuous engineering practices, refining user stories, developing and maintaining automated unit testing, supporting integration and functional testing, providing automated monitoring capabilities, warranty support, and knowledge transfer to production support. Code development must align with acceptance criteria established by the Product Owner.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or related technical field.
  • 4 years of experience in software engineering or IT consulting positions.
  • In-depth knowledge in information systems and ability to identify, apply, and implement IT best practices.
  • Understanding of key business processes and competitive strategies related to the IT function.
  • Planning and managing projects and solving complex problems by applying best practices.
  • Providing direction and mentoring less experienced teammates.
  • Working with Business Ops to refine requirements and design solutions.
  • Solid knowledge of relational database design and development (SQL, stored procedures, and data modeling).
  • Working with cross work streams to standardize data definitions, rules, access policies and appropriate data encryption techniques to maintain data quality, accessibility and reliability of data systems.
  • Working on Feasibility study reports to determine practicality, strength and weaknesses of proposed projects, challenges that could arise in coming phases of projects, and identifying potential solutions.
  • Utilizing experience with: Banking Systems; JCL; IMS database to handle data conversion activities; IBM Tools: ISPF, IBM File Manager, NDM, and ConnectDirect; IBM Utilities; COBOL; DB2; CICS; VSAM; SQL; SAS; CA-ESP; CA-WA Workstation; File Manager, DBVisualizer, SoapUI; Unix; and z/OS Connect, Dynatrace.

  • Build non-functional monitoring capabilities and provide escalated support for highly complex applications in production.
  • Build in and maintain security controls and monitoring in support of company standards.
  • Typically lead moderately complex projects and participate in larger, more complex initiatives.
  • Solve complex technical and operational problems.
  • Act as a resource for teammates with less experience.
  • May oversee the work of a small team.
  • In an Agile environment: Responsible for delivering high quality working software and automating manual/reusable tasks working directly, and engage with, the business from the beginning of the design work.
  • Leverage continuous engineering practices to deliver business value regarding effectiveness of the design.
  • Actively participate in refining user stories.
  • Responsible for design, developing, and maintaining automated unit testing, and supporting integration and functional testing.
  • Responsible for providing automated monitoring capabilities, providing warranty support, and providing knowledge transfer to production support.
  • Develop code in accordance with the acceptance criteria established by the Product Owner.
