About The Position

The Marketing Enablement & Technology (MET) team is part of Instacart's Marketing organization and is responsible for building the systems, data pipelines, and platforms that power Instacart's growth. This team operates at the intersection of Marketing, Product, and Engineering, owning the platforms for campaign feeds, audience targeting, event pipelines, and QA automation. The Software Engineer II role is within the Technical Search Visibility pod, focused on building features and systems to improve Instacart's search engine visibility and drive organic traffic. This involves developing full-stack features to enhance SEO performance, contributing to data pipelines for optimization insights, and ensuring platform discoverability. The role requires end-to-end feature delivery, contribution to technical decisions, and collaboration with Marketing and Product teams to create scalable growth solutions.

Requirements

  • 2–4 years of software engineering experience with proficiency in React, Ruby, Python, PostgreSQL, and SQL.
  • Demonstrated ability to build and launch complete features end-to-end with minimal oversight, including development, experimentation, and production rollout.
  • Experience with distributed systems and data engineering — designing pipelines, optimizing schemas, and ensuring data quality — with exposure to Airflow or DBT.
  • Ability to write performant code and improve system observability through logging and metrics, identifying and resolving bottlenecks as they arise.
  • Strong product mindset with the ability to translate user needs into technical requirements and understand how your work impacts business metrics.
  • Effective communicator who can collaborate across marketing, product, and engineering partners to align on requirements and deliver solutions.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience working on SEO/AEO initiatives or familiarity with SEO best practices, answer engine optimization for LLMs, structured data (Schema.org), search engine crawling/indexing, and Core Web Vitals.
  • Familiarity with how AI-powered search engines and LLMs consume and surface content, with curiosity about optimizing for AI answer generation.
  • Experience with big data technologies (Apache Spark, Airflow, Hadoop), NoSQL databases, and data warehousing platforms (Snowflake, Redshift).
  • Track record of proactively raising and resolving technical debt to keep code and systems healthy.
  • Experience launching experiments and analyzing results, including A/B testing frameworks for measuring SEO/AEO impact.
  • Previous experience partnering with marketing teams on growth initiatives in fast-paced startup environments.

Responsibilities

  • Build and ship full SEO and AEO features end-to-end with minimal oversight, from development through experimentation and rollout.
  • Design, build, and ship high-quality full-stack features that enhance search engine visibility, AI answer engine performance, and organic traffic with a strong sense of urgency and ownership.
  • Apply technical best practices to deliver performant, observable, and cost-aware code that improves traditional search rankings, LLM visibility, and user experience.
  • Contribute to data pipelines for SEO and AEO data ingestion, transformation, and delivery, applying simple, reusable abstractions to keep the system healthy as it grows.
  • Collaborate with product managers, designers, and marketing partners to translate user needs into technical requirements, surface trade-offs, and deliver on shared goals.
