About The Position

As a Software Engineer II at JPMorganChase within Commercial & Investment Bank (CIB) supporting Payments Initiation, you are part of an agile team that enhances, designs, and delivers critical payment and integration capabilities in a secure, stable, and scalable way. As an emerging member of the engineering team, you will execute software solutions through the design, development, and technical troubleshooting of multiple components across services, pipelines, and platform infrastructure, while building the skills needed to grow within your role.

Requirements

  • Formal training or certification on software engineering concepts and 2+ years applied experience
  • Professional software engineering experience building and operating production-grade backend services and/or streaming/data systems
  • Proficiency in one or more languages such as Java, Scala, Python, or Go (Golang) for backend development
  • Hands-on practical experience in system design, application development, testing, and operational stability
  • Experience developing, debugging, and maintaining code in a large corporate environment with one or more modern programming languages and database querying languages
  • Experience across the full SDLC, including CI/CD, release practices, and production support
  • Working knowledge or hands-on exposure to Kubernetes fundamentals (pods, deployments, services, ingress, configmaps/secrets, troubleshooting)
  • Working knowledge or hands-on exposure to Terraform (modules, environments/workspaces, plan/apply workflow, change review practices)
  • Exposure to agile methodologies such as CI/CD, application resiliency, and security
  • Emerging knowledge of software applications and technical processes within a technical discipline (e.g., cloud, observability, security, etc.)

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with service mesh concepts (traffic management, mTLS, retries/timeouts, egress controls)
  • Experience with observability tooling (metrics, logs, traces) and on-call readiness for production systems

Responsibilities

  • Execute standard software solutions, including design, development, testing, and technical troubleshooting
  • Write secure and high-quality code using the syntax of at least one programming language with limited guidance
  • Design, develop, code, and troubleshoot with consideration of upstream/downstream systems and technical implications
  • Contribute to microservices and integration patterns for payment workflows, ensuring reliability and performance
  • Apply knowledge of tools within the SDLC toolchain to improve value realized by automation (CI/CD)
  • Support containerized workloads on Kubernetes, including debugging deployments, scaling, and operational stability
  • Contribute to Infrastructure as Code (Terraform) for repeatable, auditable environment provisioning and change management
  • Apply technical troubleshooting to break down solutions and solve technical problems of basic to moderate complexity
  • Gather, analyze, and draw conclusions from large, diverse data sets (logs/metrics/traces) to identify problems and contribute to decision-making in service of secure, stable application development
  • Learn and apply system processes, methodologies, and skills for the development of secure, stable code and systems
