The Corporate Information Services Department is seeking a Software Engineer II – Business Intelligence Developer. This role involves designing and developing analytics assets using the enterprise data warehouse and business intelligence tools to deliver consistent, reliable, and automated data to end-users. The developer will conduct data discovery, analysis, and profiling to validate business requirements, provide functional design inputs, and serve as a domain expert in Clinical and/or Revenue Cycle business areas. Key responsibilities include identifying and managing data quality issues, collaborating on data solution design and implementation, troubleshooting data loads, exploring new data insight presentation methods, managing small-scale solution commitments, and maintaining the reporting environment. The position focuses on providing rapid data access to users by working on data flows from source systems to a central EDW platform and creating data models using orchestration tools, closely collaborating with Clinical and/or Revenue Cycle teams.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Information Technology, Computer Science or related field of study.
  • 3+ years of SQL programming and working with relational databases, including stored procedure development to support analytics and data warehouse initiatives, database design and administration, and performance tuning (SQL code and database architecture).
  • 3+ years of experience developing solutions with BI tools and data models (Business Objects, SQL Server, Oracle Analytics Cloud, Snowflake, Parquet).
  • Experience with Python or other object-oriented programming language.
  • Expertise with relational database concepts, data warehousing and ETL concepts.
  • Displays an eagerness to continually improve skills and learn new technologies.
  • Comfortable with an environment where priorities change frequently.
  • Ability to work and deliver strong results in a dynamic team environment.
  • Ability to work in a fast-moving company and industry.
  • Ability to work mostly unsupervised.
  • Proven communication and collaboration skills; willingness to take initiative to contribute beyond basic responsibilities.

Responsibilities

  • Design and develop analytics assets utilizing the enterprise data warehouse and business intelligence tools to provide consistent, reliable, and automated delivery to the end user.
  • Conduct data discovery, analysis, and profiling of data to validate business requirements and provide inputs into functional design.
  • Serve as domain expert in Clinical and/or Revenue Cycle business area.
  • Identify and manage data quality or integrity issues within the domain and collaborate with business units to design the structure of data solutions, as well as plan their implementation within the team.
  • Troubleshoot and fix data loads and other issues within a data warehouse.
  • Explore new ways to present data insights to end users within a project.
  • Manage small scale solution commitments to business stakeholders.
  • Participate in developing and maintaining the structure of the reporting environment.
  • Provide users with the ability to rapidly obtain the data that they need.
  • Work on data flows from source systems to one central EDW platform and create data models using data orchestration tools like Integration Services, Apache Airflow, and Spark.
  • Work closely with the Clinical and/or Revenue Cycle teams throughout project life cycles, ensuring that high-quality, timely and relevant data is available to decision makers across the organization.
  • Design, develop, implement, and maintain data models to be used by various reporting and data discovery tools.
  • Follow established SDLC, change control, release management and incident management processes while developing and deploying standard reports and dashboards.
  • Utilize established BI data models to drive reporting standards, re-use, quality and reporting simplification.
  • Suggest improvements to the data model where applicable.
  • Work collaboratively with the senior members of the team and Project Managers to perform required project tasks with minimal supervision.
  • Complete change requests for new reports and enhancements in a timely manner with high quality to effectively accomplish desired objectives.
  • Serve as Technical Lead for small to medium sized projects.
  • Ensure that data is available to decision makers through the created reports and dashboards, as well as self-service methods.
  • Provide outstanding customer service to both internal and external customers.
  • Provide technical guidance to business ad-hoc report developers on appropriate usage of data models and BI tools.
  • Stay current with the needs and operations of the enterprise; provide recommendations on the availability of existing reports and suggest opportunities to improve reporting solutions.
  • Remain technically fluent with new and existing BI tools, process and development techniques.
  • Provide support as needed for software installations and upgrades.
  • Participate in user group forums and knowledge transfer sessions.
  • Monitor the resolution of maintenance or enhancement issues assigned by the UHS Customer Support Center.
