About The Position

PlayStation is looking for a Software Engineer to help build our next generation technologies. We’re doing really cool things with web technologies like React, React Native, and more to keep PlayStation the #1 gaming platform in the world. Yes, there is a Sony office in Waterloo, Canada! We are located in the heart of uptown Waterloo with many phenomenal restaurants and social opportunities right outside the door. We have a very flexible work from home policy: live close enough to the office for occasional in-person meetings and events, otherwise work in the office as much or as little as preferred! Although your home base will be Waterloo, the team includes members in other PlayStation offices - strong abilities to collaborate in a hybrid environment is a must.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or equivalent, or at least 5 years of relevant professional experience in lieu of a degree
  • You possess 2+ years professional web development experience
  • Highly proficient in customer facing UI Development using HTML, CSS, the JavaScript ecosystem and familiarity with popular frameworks like React, Angular, Ember, Jest, Babel, and TypeScript
  • Experience collaborating with multi functional partners, especially with product, design, and server engineering
  • Domain proficiency in performance optimization or comparable areas within your current field.
  • Strong problem-solving skills
  • Ambitious with an ability to take initiative
  • A passion for robust sustainable code

Nice To Haves

  • Expertise with SPA/front-end frameworks such as React, Angular, or similar
  • Experience with React Native

Responsibilities

  • Develop, test and document JavaScript-based business critical web features and applications
  • Work with Product Owners and Product Managers to understand feature requirements, gather technical requirements and craft solutions for JavaScript-based components and applications for the PlayStation ecosystem
  • Passionate about quality and strives to improve processes, proposes standard methodologies and drives their usage within the teams
  • Write unit tests and component tests for features with key characteristics of stability and maintainability which prevent regressions in the product code.
  • Work quickly and effectively in a fast-paced ever-evolving environment
  • Work independently and collaborate with internal and external engineers
  • Work with other team members by reviewing and giving feedback on pull requests and design plans
  • Exercise your feature building capabilities and collaborate within your team to optimize existing solutions as well
  • Participate in Hackathons and Cafe Days to improve your skills and increase innovation at PlayStation.
