About The Position

Collins Aerospace is seeking a motivated Electrical or Computer Engineering candidate to join the Microelectronics Technology Directorate within the Applied Research and Technology organization. The role supports Mission Systems products by developing and optimizing Board Support Package (BSP) solutions for custom hardware. The engineer will work with embedded Linux, including bootloader development, Linux kernel tailoring, and device-driver creation, and will collaborate with software, systems, hardware, and FPGA design teams on aerospace and defense technologies. The position includes ownership of elements of a customized Linux operating-system ecosystem, including the build toolchain, kernel, root filesystem, bootloader, device drivers, and BSP across a variety of hardware boards. The engineer will contribute to embedded Linux software design, coding, testing, delivery, and ongoing support; help investigate and resolve complex hardware-software issues; prepare builds for simulation, reference platforms, and target hardware; and use Collins Aerospace processes and tools to support product quality and customer satisfaction. The successful candidate will learn embedded engineering practices and Collins’ processes, use technologies developed in-house and by external vendors, and gain exposure to low-level software used in communications, security, and space-based products. The role is onsite in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, and requires U.S. citizenship and an active, existing DoD Secret clearance after the first day.

  • Strong communication skills and the ability and desire to work collaboratively in a team environment.
  • Adaptability, determination to complete tasks according to program schedules, and a positive approach to the work environment.
  • Ability to consistently produce exemplary results on projects and teams.
  • Prior RTX internship, co-op, or work experience.

Responsibilities

  • Design, develop, and enhance the customized Linux operating-system ecosystem, including the build toolchain, kernel, root filesystem, bootloader, device drivers, and board support package for a variety of hardware boards.
