Software Engineer I

About The Position

This entry-level position performs basic software development assignments within a specific software functional area or product line. The role involves writing and reviewing specifications for system components, completing simple bug fixes, and implementing development processes under the guidance of senior engineers. The engineer will operate in various development environments, resolve technical issues, and utilize AI-assisted tools to accelerate development, testing, debugging, and documentation. A key aspect of the role is applying AI-first development workflows, reviewing AI-generated code for correctness, quality, security, and maintainability, and continuously learning and adopting emerging AI development tools and practices.

Requirements

  • BS Engineering/Computer Science or equivalent experience required
  • Basic knowledge of software development methodologies (e.g., Agile, Waterfall).
  • Basic knowledge of data manipulation languages.
  • Basic understanding of data modeling principles.
  • Knowledge of data storage subsystems.
  • Basic knowledge of applicable development languages including but not limited to: Java/J2EE, JavaScript, JSP, C/C++, HTML, XML, SQL, Windows, UNIX, and .Net.
  • Basic knowledge of AI-assisted and agentic software development tools, such as GitHub Copilot, Claude Code, Codex, Gemini, or similar tools.
  • Ability and desire to use AI-assisted development workflows to generate, refine, test, and debug code while applying sound software engineering practices.
  • Knowledge of test-driven development.
  • Ability and desire to learn new processes and technologies.
  • Basic oral and written communications skills.

Responsibilities

  • Write and review portions of detailed specifications for the development of system components of simple complexity.
  • Complete simple bug fixes.
  • Under the guidance of senior-level engineers, successfully implement development processes, coding best practices and code reviews.
  • Operate in various development environments (Agile, Waterfall, etc.) while collaborating with key stakeholders.
  • Resolve basic technical issues as necessary.
  • Use AI-assisted and agentic development tools, under appropriate guidance, to accelerate software development, testing, debugging, and documentation.
  • Apply AI-first development workflows while reviewing and validating AI-generated code for correctness, quality, security, and maintainability.
  • Continuously learn and adopt emerging AI development tools and practices as part of the software development lifecycle.
