About The Position

The Software Engineer I supports the Department of Energy (DOE) Savannah River Operations Office (DOE-SR) federal government staff and site contractors at the Savannah River Site (SRS) in Aiken SC, contributes to the design, development, and maintenance of software applications, focusing on full-stack development, quality assurance, and end-user support while working independently and collaboratively to deliver solutions.

Requirements

  • Proficiency in at least one object-oriented programming language (e.g., C#, Java).
  • Familiarity with front-end technologies (HTML, CSS, JavaScript).
  • Experience with database design and development (SQL preferred).
  • Experience with version control systems (e.g., Git).
  • Proficient with Microsoft development tools and platforms (e.g., Visual Studio, .NET).
  • Familiarity with SharePoint development or administration of content management systems.
  • An interest in AI technologies.
  • Strong problem-solving and analytical abilities.
  • Effective communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Demonstrated commitment to quality and attention to detail.
  • Skills at written documentation.
  • Understanding of interdepartmental team dynamics.
  • Minimum of 3 years of progressive technical experience designing, implementing, and maintaining software applications.
  • Must have background in one or more of the following: database analysis, administration, design and development, AI-assisted software development, client-server architectures, web-enabled applications, and graphics design.
  • Must possess (or be able to obtain) a "Q" level security clearance

  • Proficiency in AI-assisted coding tools (e.g., Tabnine AI Platform).
  • Cloud computing platforms expertise (e.g., Microsoft Azure).
  • Experience in SharePoint migration, including migrating on-premise systems to cloud environments.

Responsibilities

  • Designs, develops, tests, and deploys secure software applications using the Software Development Lifecycle (SDLC) Methodology, adhering to architectural patterns such as MVC.
  • Utilize version control systems, specifically GIT, for source code management.
  • Utilize AI tools and platforms to assist in enhancing code quality, testability, and maintainability, and contribute to the integration of AI-driven solutions for automated testing support and preliminary vulnerability identification.
  • Assists in creating and maintaining software using various programmatic languages in conjunction with senior engineers with minimal oversight.
  • Perform full-stack development activities, from front-end user interfaces to back-end services and database integration.
  • Contributes to the implementation and maintenance of user-friendly interfaces with a focus on web-based technologies.
  • Supports existing applications and assists in troubleshooting and resolving software defects.
  • Supports cyber vulnerability management processes, identifying and addressing potential security weaknesses.
  • Ensure full compliance with accessibility standards (e.g., WCAG), and integrate accessibility testing throughout the development lifecycle to guarantee an inclusive user-centered experience.
  • Assists in the modernization and migration of legacy applications to current platforms.
  • Develops and maintains solutions within the Microsoft 365 ecosystem, including SharePoint and Power Platform components.
  • Collaborates with cross-functional teams to gather requirements, define specifications, and ensure alignment with business needs.
  • Offers technical support and guidance to end-users on application functionality and usage.
  • Performs independent work and manages tasks to meet project deadlines.
  • Support the Software Engineer II with daily operational tasks such as elevated support tickets, data analysis, data validations and testing and troubleshooting of applications.
  • Document all work tasks, progress, and completed activities thoroughly within Azure DevOps, ensuring accurate status updates, relevant details, and adherence to established project management methodologies.
  • Report on personal project task statuses and work accomplished to the Software Engineer Team Lead and contribute to team updates for the IT Project Manager.
  • A member of the Software Engineering team, takes directions from their assigned team lead and government task.
  • Responsible for the accountability and security of their assigned government license, software, property and equipment.
  • Performs additional responsibilities and tasks, as directed, to support team objectives and organizational goals.
