Collins Aerospace, an RTX business, is seeking to hire a Software Engineer I to join our Avionics Connected Aviation Solutions team. We are searching for a motivated and talented individual who is eager to grow their skills developing and supporting our Air Traffic Control Systems worldwide. We design and implement safety-of-life air traffic management systems for multinational customers that are used for controlling and monitoring civil and military aviation traffic. This is an opportunity to work with cutting-edge COTS tools, processes, and methodologies while growing your skills to support, design, develop, integrate, and test operational software components throughout the software development lifecycle. This position will sit at our Aguadilla, PR location. You must be residing in Puerto Rico at the time of starting employment. Relocation is not offered. This role is categorized as hybrid, with 3 days onsite and 2 days remote following the schedule assigned by the Manager.

Requirements

  • Typically requires a degree in Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics (STEM) and less than 2 years prior relevant experience.
  • Demonstrated professional experience communicating in English (verbal and written).
  • Exposure to software development, integration, testing, or validation, preferably in a Unix/Linux environment.
  • Familiarity with Java or C/C++ programming languages.
  • Basic knowledge of containerization technologies (e.g., Docker, Podman, Kubernetes).
  • Proficiency with scripting languages such as Bash and Python.
  • U.S. citizenship is required, as only U.S. citizens are authorized to access information under this program/contract.

Nice To Haves

  • Familiarity with asynchronous messaging frameworks.
  • Exposure to Agile methodologies and experience using tools like Jira, Confluence, Bamboo, or Bitbucket.
  • Interest in or willingness to learn Ada programming language.
  • Knowledge or experience with software testing or debugging source code.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and maintain software that is integrated into our Air Traffic Management Systems (ATMS) products.
  • Assist in maintaining documentation and work instructions to meet ATS SED’s high-maturity-level software engineering standards and processes.
  • Collaborate with your team in the Agile process, including daily standups, sprint planning, retrospectives, backlog grooming, and story pointing.
  • Work with an integrated engineering team in a collaborative environment, participating in multi-level communication with engineering team members, program management, and external stakeholders.
