About The Position

The Staff, Software Engineer plays a critical role in delivering scalable platform capabilities and driving the full software development lifecycle, including design, coding, testing, deployment, and maintenance. This position requires expertise in cloud-native architecture, AI/ML integration, and software design patterns to build resilient, modular solutions. The role involves technical leadership, mentoring, and collaboration across teams to ensure alignment with business goals and engineering excellence. The engineer applies data-driven decision-making and innovation to continuously improve tools, processes, and products while maintaining high standards of quality and technical ownership. About the team: The International DE Search Browse team plays a central role in enhancing the shopping experience by enabling customers to find relevant products efficiently across Walmart’s global eCommerce platforms. This team develops scalable, intelligent, and customer-focused features spanning search, browse, relevance, and personalization. Operating in a fast-paced and collaborative environment, the team emphasizes innovation, quality, and data-driven decision-making. Members apply expertise in software design, API development, and cloud-native architecture to deliver high-impact solutions that support Walmart’s commitment to excellence and continuous improvement worldwide.

Requirements

  • Proven expertise in cloud-native architecture, including microservices, containers, and automation to ensure scalable and resilient systems.
  • Strong proficiency in software design patterns, API design, and software prototyping to deliver maintainable and modular solutions.
  • Experience driving full software development lifecycle activities, including coding, testing, CI/CD deployment, and observability.
  • Ability to analyze complex problems and apply data-driven decision making to optimize engineering processes and outcomes.
  • Demonstrated skills in debugging, remedial action, and continuous improvement to enhance code quality and system reliability.
  • Effective collaboration and communication skills to engage stakeholders and mentor engineering teams.
  • Adaptability to evolving technologies and changing business priorities with sound technical judgment.
  • Bachelor's degree in computer science, computer engineering, computer information systems, software engineering, or related area and 4 years’ experience in software engineering or related area.
  • 6 years’ experience in software engineering or related area.

Nice To Haves

  • Master’s degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Computer Information Systems, Software Engineering, or related area and 2 years' experience in software engineering or related area.
  • Background in creating inclusive digital experiences, demonstrating knowledge in implementing Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.2 AA standards, assistive technologies, and integrating digital accessibility seamlessly.

Responsibilities

  • Deliver platform capabilities including infrastructure, tooling, and ML frameworks aligned with roadmap milestones and domain priorities.
  • Drive full software development lifecycle activities such as coding, testing, deployment, monitoring, and maintenance.
  • Apply cloud-native architecture principles to ensure scalable, resilient, and agile systems.
  • Lead system design reviews to validate quality and alignment with architectural standards.
  • Build AI-driven applications and integrate ML components using multiple programming languages.
  • Mentor engineers, influence technical decisions, and promote engineering excellence through continuous improvement.
  • Collaborate across teams to define technical requirements and track success metrics using data-driven practices.
