Software Engineer, Fleet Platform

Bedrock Robotics•New York City, NY

About The Position

Bedrock Robotics is hiring a Software Engineer for its Fleet Platform team. Fleet Engineering builds the platform for managing the lifecycle of autonomous machines, including systems of record, services, and applications used by Bedrock teams and external partners. The platform supports a fleet expected to grow to thousands of machines. The role spans backend services, data modeling, and user-facing applications. The engineer will work end to end with technicians and operators in the field and with engineers across hardware, machine learning, and robotics. The work includes translating real-world workflows into durable software, supporting machines deployed at remote job sites, and building APIs used by internal teams and external partners.

Requirements

  • At least 5 years of experience building and shipping production software and owning systems from design through operation.
  • Strong backend and data-modeling skills, including designing schemas and services that other systems depend on.
  • Ability to build full-stack applications, including user-facing interfaces.
  • Product sense and focus on solving users' problems with useful software.
  • Comfort with ambiguity and ability to define and complete vague, cross-functional problems.
  • Clear communication with teams outside engineering, including users who operate excavators, repair field hardware, or work directly with customers.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience managing fleets of physical assets, IoT devices, or robots.
  • Experience with edge systems, intermittent connectivity, device provisioning, or large data transfers.
  • Experience in operations-heavy domains such as manufacturing, logistics, supply chain, field service, or construction.
  • Experience running high-uptime services on AWS with strong observability.
  • Experience with Python, TypeScript, Rust, or Postgres.

Responsibilities

  • Own the fleet system of record, including data models and services for machines, hardware, worksites, deployments, and machine lifecycle tracking.
  • Build applications for technicians, dispatchers, and operations teams to vet machines, schedule installs, track inventory, and maintain fleet health.
  • Build services that provide robots in the field with identity, credentials, calibrations, and configuration, and track what is running on each machine.
  • Move sensor data from remote job sites to support machine learning and the company's learning flywheel.
  • Work with users in the office and in the field to turn real-world workflows into simple, durable software.
  • Design foundational APIs for other engineering teams and external partners, and evolve them safely as the business changes.
  • Use AI and agents to automate development workflows, fleet triage, and operations.
