About The Position

The Financial Platform Issuing team at Block is responsible for the card issuing platform that supports all Block brands, including Cash App Card, Square Card, and new programs. This team manages the entire card lifecycle, from issuance and fulfillment to activation, real-time transaction authorization and processing, digital wallet provisioning, 3-D Secure authentication, and dispute systems. They ensure that card transactions are processed in milliseconds, 24/7, in collaboration with card networks and bank partners.

Requirements

3+ years of software development or equivalent experience.
Experience building and maintaining production software systems.
Experience delivering well-scoped projects or features end-to-end (design, build, test, ship, operate) with guidance from more experienced engineers.
Drive to find flaws in a system with many moving parts and take necessary steps to fix them.
A growth mindset and an appetite for solving open-ended and ambiguous problems.
Demonstrated AI fluency, including experience using AI-powered developer tools and the ability to critically evaluate and responsibly apply their outputs.
Strong communication and collaboration skills.
Bachelor's Degree or Diploma in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Software Engineering, or equivalent experience.

Responsibilities

Design, build, and operate the services that power card experiences.
Own well-scoped features end to end, from design through testing, launch, and operation.
Design, develop, test, ship, and maintain features across card issuance, transaction processing, and disputes.
Write high-quality, well-tested code.
Participate actively in design reviews and code reviews.
Design and implement systems within microservice and event-driven architectures, ensuring reliability and correctness for financial transactions.
Participate in operational ownership of tier-0 financial systems, including on-call duties, incident response, and postmortems.
Demonstrate AI fluency by leveraging AI-powered tools throughout the development lifecycle to improve velocity and quality, while applying sound judgment.
Hold teammates and yourself to high engineering standards.
Learn from and support other engineers through code reviews and technical discussions.
