About The Position

Halogen Engineering Group is seeking a Software Engineer with extensive experience in developing, maintaining, and enhancing complex software systems. This role involves working on diverse projects such as processing-intensive analytics, novel algorithm development, manipulation of large datasets, real-time systems, and business management information systems, all based on documented requirements. The engineer will work individually or as part of a team, reviewing and testing software components for adherence to design requirements, documenting test results, and resolving software problem reports. The position requires utilizing appropriate software development and design methodologies, and providing specific input to software component design, including hardware/software trade-offs, software reuse, the use of COTS/GOTS, and requirements analysis. The role is based in Fort Meade, MD, and requires an onsite presence.

Requirements

  • Candidate would be expected to be “On call” to support system operations.
  • Comfortable working across the software development lifecycle, including deployment, automation, cloud infrastructure, and production support.
  • Software engineering experience with the ability to support cloud-native deployments and DevOps-related activities.
  • Candidates who build software and are comfortable deploying, automating, troubleshooting, and supporting it in production environments.
  • CI/CD Tools: Familiarity with continuous integration frameworks such as GitLab CI, Jenkins, or GitHub Actions.
  • Infrastructure Tools: Experience with IaC tools like Terraform or Ansible.
  • Container Platforms: Working knowledge of Docker and Kubernetes.
  • Cloud Experience: Proficiency with major cloud service providers (AWS, Azure, or Google Cloud).
  • Fourteen (14) years' experience as a SWE in programs and contracts of similar scope, type, and complexity is required.
  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or related discipline from an accredited college or university is required.
  • Four (4) years of additional SWE experience on projects with similar software processes may be substituted for a bachelor's degree.
  • Current TS/SCI security clearance.
  • Polygraph clearance required (Poly must be less than 5 years old).

Responsibilities

  • Develop, maintain, and enhance complex and diverse software systems.

  • Design, develop and modify software systems, using scientific analysis and mathematical models to predict and measure outcome and consequences of design.
  • Design or implement complex algorithms requiring adherence to strict timing, system resource, or interface constraints.
  • Perform quality control on team products.
  • Implement recommendations for improving documentation and software development process standards.
  • Oversee one or more software development teams and ensure the work is completed in accordance with the constraints of the software development process being used on any particular project.
  • Confer with system engineers and hardware engineers to derive software requirements and to obtain information on project limitations and capabilities, performance requirements and interfaces.
  • Coordinate software system installation and monitor equipment functioning to ensure operational specifications are met.
  • Recommend new technologies and processes for complex software projects.
  • Serve as the technical lead of multiple software development teams.
  • Select the software development process in coordination with the customer and system engineering.
  • Ensure quality control of all developed and modified software.
  • Delegate programming and testing responsibilities to one or more teams and monitor their performance.
