About The Position

Halogen Engineering is seeking a DevOps Software Engineer to join a team responsible for designing, developing, and maintaining a comprehensive distributed Metrics and Monitoring solution for HPC systems. The goal is to ensure the reliability, performance, and scalability of HPC infrastructure. The candidate will design, develop, test, deploy, document, maintain, and enhance complex and diverse software systems based on documented requirements. These systems may include processing-intensive analytics, novel algorithm development, manipulation of large datasets, real-time systems, business management information systems, and systems incorporating data repositories, data transport services, and application/systems development and monitoring. The role involves working individually or as part of a team, reviewing and testing software components for adherence to design requirements, documenting test results, and resolving software problem reports. The engineer will utilize appropriate software development and design methodologies, provide input on system design including hardware/software trade-offs, software reuse, use of Open Source Software (OSS) and/or Commercial Off-The-Shelf (COTS) Government Off-The-Shelf (GOTS) software, and requirements analysis. Experience developing in Unix, shell scripting, and working knowledge of Configuration Management (CM) tools and Web Services implementation are essential.

  • Experience using the Linux CLI and Linux Tools
  • Experience developing Bash scripts to automate manual processes
  • Recent software development experience using Rust and Python
  • Experience using Splunk for data collection, message brokers, data storage, and presentation tools
  • Experience interfacing with Log Management tools including Syslog-ng and rsyslog
  • Experience with Message Brokers including Kafka
  • Experience with IaC (Infrastructure as Code) principles and automation tools including Ansible
  • Experience with CI/CD principles, methodologies, and tools such as GitLab CI
  • Experience with Git Source Control System
  • Master’s degree in computer science or related discipline from an accredited college or university, plus five (5) years of experience as a SWE, in programs and contracts of similar scope, type, and complexity.
  • OR Bachelor’s degree in computer science or related discipline from an accredited college or university, plus seven (7) years of experience as a SWE, in programs and contracts of similar scope, type, and complexity
  • OR Nine (9) years of experience as a SWE, in programs and contracts of similar scope, type, and complexity.

Responsibilities

  • Analyze user requirements to derive software design and performance requirements.
  • Debug existing software and correct defects.

  • Java development using the Eclipse IDE (Integrated Development Environment).

  • Experience using collaboration and software development tools (ie. Atlassian).

  • Oversee one or more software development teams and ensure the work is completed in accordance with the constraints of the software development process being used on any particular project.
  • Confer with system engineers and hardware engineers to derive software requirements and to obtain information on project limitations and capabilities, performance requirements, and interfaces.
  • Coordinate software installation on a system and monitor performance to ensure operational specifications are met.
  • Recommend new technologies and processes for complex software projects.
  • Serve as the technical lead of multiple software development teams.
  • Select the software development process in coordination with the customer and system engineering.
  • Ensure quality control of all developed and modified software.
  • Delegate programming and testing responsibilities to one or more teams and monitor their performance.
