About The Position

The Boeing Company's Defense, Space & Security (BDS) business unit is seeking a Software Engineer, Data Systems to support the Space Mission Systems (SMS) Rapid Space Capabilities (RSC) portfolio, specifically for the Rocky program. This role is available in Albuquerque, NM, El Segundo, CA, or Kent, WA. The company is hiring for both Experienced and Senior Level Software Engineers. The selected candidate will be responsible for architecting, designing, developing, and testing a data system capable of handling large data and video demands to meet the Rocky program's software development schedule and milestones. These teams are involved in creating next-generation products and services for the BDS business unit, working with commercial, government, and proprietary customers. The scope of work encompasses all facets of engineering, from technology investment and concept development to proposal writing, requirements definition, design, build, integration, testing, and product demonstration in relevant environments.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree or higher
• 3+ years' experience with large Database Management Systems (DBMS) requiring proficiency in SQL (complex queries, stored procedures, triggers) and database design
• Experience in foundational Computer Science knowledge and object-oriented design and software patterns
• Knowledge of Extract, Transform, Load (ETL) processes (e.g., SSIS) and data backup/recovery techniques
• U.S. Citizenship Required
• Active U.S. Top Secret Security Clearance (U.S. Security Clearance that has been active in the past 24 months is considered active)

Nice To Haves

• Level 4: 5 or more years’ related work experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience
• Bachelor of Science degree from an accredited course of study in engineering, engineering technology (includes manufacturing engineering technology), chemistry, physics, mathematics, data science, or computer science and 5+ years of related work experience OR Bachelor’s Degree and 9+ years of directly related work experience OR 13+ years of related, relevant experience
• An Active U.S. Top Secret/SCI Security Clearance
• Experience with Software Engineering principles including, but not limited to, Software Configuration Management, Software Architecture and Design, and Software Life Cycle Management
• Experience with one or more of the following: Java, C++, SQL, Python, JS frameworks (REACT, jQuery UI, Open Layers, etc.), Spring Framework, Hibernate, RDBMS, MongoDB, REST, and OpenAPI
• Experience using dependency management and automation services (e.g. Ivy, Maven, Gradle, Git, Jenkins, etc.)
• Experience using cloud-based infrastructure (e.g. AWS, Azure, etc.)
• Familiarity with practices such as test-driven development (TDD), agile software development, DevSecOps, and CI/CD management
• Experience with data system optimization, with skills in performance tuning, indexing, and security protocols (encryption, GDPR/HIPAA)
• Experience with RDBMS (SQL Server, Oracle, MySQL) and NoSQL (MongoDB) data systems
• Experience with systems engineering or software development on space-based or ground-based systems

Responsibilities

• Leads the design, development, and analyses of user interfaces of software systems
• Partners with appropriate stakeholders to oversee translation of software requirements and models that meet customer, operational and performance requirements
• Leads completion of software system-level analyses to identify risk, issues and opportunities
• Leads software engineers to successfully complete code reviews to ensure alignment to requirements and standards
• Leads review of product and process for alignment with project plans and industry standards
• Researches and oversees implementation of current and emerging software technologies, tools, and frameworks (e.g. development, design, review preparation, customer coordination, closed area development, etc.)
