About The Position

Charles River Development (CRD) is the FinTech division of State Street. CRD's cloud-based Front Office technology, combined with State Street’s middle- and back-office services, forms the foundation of the State Street Alpha® Platform. CRD has experienced significant growth and continues to invest in its solutions, processes, systems, and talent. The CRD / Alpha® Platform Engineering organization is transforming the platform by adopting cloud-based technologies such as Microsoft Azure, Kafka, and Snowflake. As part of its talent growth strategy, CRD Engineering partners with universities to hire recent graduates for roles in Full Stack, UX/UI, Quality, and Performance Engineering. Junior engineers will receive coaching and guidance from senior engineers and leadership, becoming part of an agile organization and contributing to the CRD/Alpha Platform development.

Requirements

  • B.S. or M.S. degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Engineering, Mathematics, Physics, or a related technical field.
  • 0–2 years of professional software engineering experience, internship experience, or equivalent academic project experience.
  • Foundational programming experience in one or more languages such as Java, JavaScript, TypeScript, Python, or C#.
  • Interest in building high-quality software in a collaborative, agile environment.

Nice To Haves

  • Exposure to React, Node.js, SQL, cloud platforms, DevOps, testing frameworks, or distributed systems.
  • Exposure to LLM concepts, prompt design, AI APIs, or AI-assisted development through coursework, internships, or project experience.
  • Interest in financial technology, portfolio management, trading, compliance, post-trade, IBOR, or wealth management.

Responsibilities

  • Work with senior engineers to design, build, test, and improve software features across the CRD/Alpha Platform
  • Collaborate with Business Analysts to create simple and sustainable software solutions for complex problems
  • Participate in the agile software development process including attending all daily standups, sprint planning, backlog grooming, and retrospectives
  • Participate in on-the-job and formal trainings to develop your career
  • Learn modern front-end development practices using JavaScript, TypeScript, React, Redux, and React Query.
  • Gain exposure to the Node.js ecosystem, including npm and/or Yarn.
  • Gain hands-on experience integrating Large Language Models (LLMs) into software applications using APIs, prompt design, and enterprise knowledge retrieval patterns.
  • Develop practical experience with object-oriented programming using Java and/or C#.
  • Learn how to build event-driven architectures using technologies such as Kafka.
  • Gain exposure to Kubernetes, DevOps practices, and scalable application deployment.
  • Learn to develop cloud-native services on Microsoft Azure or AWS using Java and Spring.
  • Learn database technologies such as Snowflake, SQL Server, and PostgreSQL.
  • Develop an understanding of observability, operability, scalability, and modern software architecture principles.
  • Build business knowledge in areas such as portfolio management, trading, compliance, post-trade, IBOR, and wealth management.
  • Build knowledge of testing standards and frameworks such as Jest, Cypress, and Jasmine.
