About The Position

As a member of Verkada’s Cloud Infrastructure High Availability team, the Software Engineer will design, build, and maintain tooling that helps the company operate reliably at global scale. Example projects include automated stability risk detection, AI outage investigation, deployment tooling, load testing, and incident management. The role offers ownership of a subdomain and opportunities to lead cross-team efforts. This position is onsite at Verkada’s headquarters in San Mateo, California.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s, master’s, or PhD in Computer Science or a similar technical field of study.
• At least 4 years of experience with cloud infrastructure or backend systems.
• Strong problem-solving and troubleshooting skills.
• Experience with Python and/or Go.
• Experience with one of the major cloud platforms, preferably AWS.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills.

Nice To Haves

• Experience with Terraform.
• Experience with Kubernetes.
• Experience with a service mesh such as Istio.
• Experience with observability tools such as Datadog, Prometheus, or OpenTelemetry.
• Experience contributing to open-source projects.

Responsibilities

• Design, develop, test, and deploy software to improve Verkada’s backend reliability.
• Collaborate with other engineering teams to understand their infrastructure needs and provide robust solutions.
• Contribute to the architecture and design of new and existing cloud services.
• Use past outages and pain points to make data-driven decisions about project direction.
• Take ownership of a subdomain and lead cross-team efforts.
