About The Position

ERock is a leader and innovator in distributed energy, installing, operating, and integrating flexible, low-cost, and quick-response distributed generation to enhance reliability, stability, cost-effectiveness, and reduce carbon footprint. Our backup generators ensure business continuity during power outages. We are seeking individuals committed to customer service, innovation, and ingenuity.

Requirements

  • 3+ years of professional software engineering experience.
  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field, or equivalent practical experience.
  • Proficiency with C#/.NET and object-oriented design.
  • Experience building cloud applications; Azure strongly preferred.
  • Working knowledge of REST APIs and relational databases, plus comfort with analytics, columnar, or time-series data stores.
  • Working comfort on Linux, including reading logs and troubleshooting on a remote machine.
  • Experience with automated testing and CI/CD.
  • Ability to investigate issues using logs, metrics, and traces, and to explain findings clearly.
  • Willingness to learn fast and to use AI tools to move faster.
  • Based in the Greater Houston area and able to work a hybrid schedule from our Houston office, including time on the factory floor.
  • Mobility to work in a standard office setting and use standard office equipment.
  • Stamina to maintain attention to detail despite interruptions.
  • Ability to lift and carry files weighing up to 20 pounds.
  • Ability to read printed materials and a computer screen.
  • Ability to communicate effectively in person and over the phone.

Nice To Haves

  • Enjoys a small team where people own whole slices of a system rather than a narrow lane.
  • Follows a problem through from device to dashboard rather than stopping at a team boundary.
  • Communicates clearly in writing and in person, collaborates well, and stays calm under pressure.
  • Writes things down: design notes and runbooks that still make sense months later.
  • Balances pragmatism with curiosity; simplifies first, then refines.
  • Makes thoughtful trade-offs and cares about maintainability, tests, and observability.
  • Enjoys learning new things and using technology, AI included, to solve hard problems.
  • Enjoys working alongside experts from diverse engineering backgrounds, including hardware and plant-floor teams.
  • Hands-on experience with Azure Data Explorer and KQL, or comparable time-series platforms.
  • Experience with Azure IoT Hub, Device Provisioning Service, or comparable device-fleet platforms.
  • Exposure to industrial, energy, manufacturing, or other physical-world systems where data quality and uptime have real consequences.

Responsibilities

  • Build and evolve C#/.NET back-end services on Azure for telemetry data from edge devices to cloud ingestion, APIs, stores, and tools.
  • Develop ingestion and processing paths that handle intermittent connectivity, device outages, and out-of-order messages.
  • Contribute to capturing, organizing, querying, and retaining large-scale time-series telemetry with simple solutions.
  • Diagnose end-to-end issues from device messages through cloud ingestion to API and storage using logs, metrics, and traces, and clearly explain findings.
  • Improve and maintain internal applications, factory-floor stations, and dashboards for operations, manufacturing, and field teams.
  • Write automated tests, ship through CI/CD pipelines, and ensure services are observable and supportable in production.
  • Contribute to design and system documentation for utility customer security reviews.
  • Partner with software, hardware, data science, and engineering teams to transform complex signals into actionable insights.
