About The Position

As a Senior Software Engineer, you will lead the delivery of scoped features and solutions by collaborating with cross-functional teams to develop, test, and maintain high-quality software systems. This role requires expertise in software development lifecycle, including coding, debugging, and continuous integration, while integrating AI/ML components to enhance platform capabilities. You will contribute to solution design, technical leadership, and innovation, ensuring alignment with business objectives and system standards. The position demands strong problem-solving skills, effective communication, and a commitment to engineering excellence and continuous improvement. The Pre Purchase Experience Platform team at Walmart delivers a seamless shopping experience to millions globally. This collaborative group includes Engineering, UX, Product Management, Business, and Analytics professionals who rapidly develop and iterate on platform services powering Homepage, Content Pages, Search, Browse, Deals, and Item pages across web and mobile. The team focuses on high-performing front-end solutions through location catchment, fulfillment capture and integrating advanced features such as Virtual Try-On and Generative AI. Continuous experimentation, innovation, and customer feedback drive the development of scalable, reliable products that enhance the top-of-the-funnel shopping journey.

Requirements

  • Extensive experience in software development with proficiency in languages such as Java, Springboot Kafka Streams.
  • Strong expertise in object-oriented programming, code review, debugging, and documentation-based coding practices.
  • Proven ability to deliver scoped features and models through iterative development and continuous integration.
  • Skilled in AI/ML integration and leveraging generative AI tools to enhance development efficiency.
  • Demonstrated technical judgment in designing scalable, secure, and maintainable software solutions.
  • Experience collaborating across teams to translate complex requirements into actionable technical solutions.
  • Bachelor's degree in computer science, computer engineering, computer information systems, software engineering, or related area and 3 years’ experience in software engineering or related area.
  • 5 years’ experience in software engineering or related area.

  • Experience with Location and fulfillment systems and an understanding of how they operate.
  • Hands‑on experience with Agentic AI development.
  • A passion for exploring technology outside of work.
  • Master’s degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Computer Information Systems, Software Engineering, or related area and 1 year's experience in software engineering or related area.

Responsibilities

  • Design, develop, and maintain high-quality backend features using Java and Springboot Kafka Streams.
  • Participate in technical design discussions, implement scalable, testable, and maintainable solutions.
  • Optimize app performance, reliability using profiling tools, crash analytics, performance monitoring dashboards and observability tools (e.g., OpenObserve).
  • Work within a modular architecture and contribute to systems that integrate with CosmOSDB APIs and microservices-based backends.
  • Evaluate and integrate third-party SDKs and APIs and stay updated with the latest JDK advancements, Java platform updates and trends, following internal approval processes.
  • Drive operational excellence by ensuring high availability, performance, automation, and reliability of production systems using AI-driven monitoring, alerting, and incident management.
