Software Engineer, Backend – Webex Signaling
About The Position
Join Cisco’s core Webex Signaling team, which powers calling, meetings, screen sharing, whiteboarding, transcription, and other Webex experiences. The globally distributed team builds and operates the microservices through which major Webex workloads flow. As a Software Engineer on the team, you will contribute to technical design and implementation in a development team practicing continuous integration and continuous delivery. You will develop cloud-native microservices, help ensure services are reliable, scalable, secure, manageable, and supportable, and enhance telemetry systems for analytics, observability, and continuous improvement. The role uses Cisco-approved AI-assisted software engineering tools and agents throughout the software development lifecycle. You are expected to apply human judgment to validate AI-generated content for correctness, security, privacy, performance, maintainability, and licensing or intellectual-property considerations. You will help uphold high standards for code, design, architecture, and scalability, create alignment across product teams and implementation, and contribute to a culture of technical excellence, collaboration, and continuous learning. This position performs work that the U.S. government has specified can only be performed by a U.S. citizen on U.S. soil.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s or master’s degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related field, or equivalent experience.
- Production software development experience with Java, Spring, and Spring Boot.
- Experience participating in the software development lifecycle, including design, implementation, testing, deployment, and production support.
- Experience building large-scale distributed applications using technologies such as Cassandra, Kafka, and Redis.
- Experience leveraging AI tools to increase productivity and efficiency.
Nice To Haves
- Experience with REST APIs, API design patterns, JSON, containerized systems, and scalable microservices.
- Experience designing or operating telemetry, monitoring, and analytics systems.
- Experience with Kubernetes, cloud platforms, CI/CD pipelines, and production observability.
- Experience with SQL and NoSQL databases at scale.
Responsibilities
- Build and contribute to technical designs and implementation in a team practicing continuous integration and continuous delivery.
- Develop cloud-native microservices deployed on Kubernetes and similar platforms.
- Ensure services are reliable, scalable, secure, manageable, and supportable, with DevOps as a primary concern.
- Enhance Webex telemetry systems to support analytics, observability, and continuous improvement.
- Use Cisco-approved AI-assisted software engineering tools and agents throughout the software development lifecycle, from requirements analysis and design through implementation, testing, code review, documentation, deployment, monitoring, and incident response.
- Validate AI-generated code, designs, tests, documentation, and recommendations for correctness, security, privacy, performance, maintainability, and licensing or intellectual-property considerations.
- Serve as a gatekeeper for high-quality code, designs, architecture, and practical approaches to scale.
- Create alignment across product teams, architectural decisions, and implementation.
- Contribute to a culture of technical excellence, collaboration, and continuous learning.
