The Staff, Software Engineer plays a critical role in delivering scalable platform capabilities and driving the full software development lifecycle, including design, coding, testing, deployment, and maintenance. This position requires expertise in cloud-native architecture, API design, and AI/ML integration to build resilient, modular solutions. The role involves technical leadership, mentoring, and collaboration across teams to ensure alignment with business objectives and engineering excellence. The engineer applies data-driven decision-making and continuous improvement practices to enhance productivity and deliver high-quality software solutions that support Walmart’s strategic goals.

Focused on delivering exceptional experiences anytime and anywhere, the team continuously evolves to meet customer needs. Walmart+ is transforming shopping both online and in-store, and this team plays a key role in designing scalable mobile platforms and enhancing membership features. Engineers collaborate to build robust backend systems, apply cloud-native architecture, and leverage data-driven decision-making. Requirements

• Proven expertise in cloud-native architecture, including microservices, containers, and automation to build scalable and resilient systems.
• Strong experience in software design patterns, API design, and software prototyping to deliver maintainable and modular solutions.
• Proficiency in programming languages such as JavaScript, TypeScript, Python, Java, Rust, Dart, or C++.
• Demonstrated ability to lead full software development lifecycle activities including coding, testing, CI/CD deployment, and observability.
• Skilled in data-driven decision making and problem solving to optimize engineering processes and product outcomes.
• Experience mentoring engineers and influencing technical decisions to promote engineering excellence and sustainability.
• Bachelor's degree in computer science, computer engineering, computer information systems, software engineering, or related area and 4 years’ experience in software engineering or related area.
• 6 years’ experience in software engineering or related area.

Nice To Haves

• Master’s degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Computer Information Systems, Software Engineering, or related area and 2 years' experience in software engineering or related area.
• Creating inclusive digital experiences, demonstrating knowledge in implementing Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.2 AA standards, assistive technologies, and integrating digital accessibility seamlessly.

Responsibilities

• Deliver platform capabilities including infrastructure, tooling, and ML frameworks aligned with roadmap milestones and domain priorities.
• Drive full software development lifecycle activities such as coding, testing, deployment, observability, and maintenance.
• Apply cloud-native architecture principles to ensure scalability, resilience, and agility across systems.
• Conduct system design reviews to validate feasibility, quality, and alignment with architectural best practices.
• Build AI-driven applications and integrate ML components to support automation and multi-step reasoning.
• Mentor engineers, influence technical decisions, and promote engineering excellence through documentation and knowledge sharing.
• Collaborate with stakeholders to translate complex problems into actionable technical requirements and track success metrics.
