Software Engineer, Backend Intern
About The Position
Prophet Security is seeking graduating seniors for their Summer 2027 Software Engineering Internship. This internship offers the opportunity to build impactful products, learn from an experienced team, and gain hands-on experience at a fast-growing startup. The platform analyzes security alerts, develops and executes investigation plans, and produces detailed findings and actionable recommendations. Security analysts review these investigations and provide context and feedback, which are continuously incorporated into future automation. As a Software Engineering Intern, you’ll contribute to the backend systems that power Prophet’s platform. Working alongside experienced engineers and experts in product, machine learning, and cybersecurity, you’ll help build services that ingest, process, and reason over large volumes of security data. You’ll write production code, participate in technical design, receive mentorship from experienced engineers, and take meaningful ownership of a project from development through deployment. The technology stack includes AI-powered agents, data synthesis and correlation, security-tool integrations, Python, Go, React, and TypeScript.
Requirements
- Currently pursuing a bachelor’s or master’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related technical field, with an expected graduation date in 2027.
- Experience with one or more relevant programming languages, such as Python or Go, through coursework, research, internships, or personal projects.
- Understanding of fundamental software engineering concepts, including data structures, algorithms, testing, and system design.
- Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
- Clear written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to collaborate effectively and learn in a fast-moving environment.
- Passion for building high-quality products and solving customer problems.
Nice To Haves
- Experience with backend services, distributed systems, cloud infrastructure, cybersecurity, or machine learning is helpful but not required.
Responsibilities
- Contribute to the backend systems that power Prophet’s platform.
- Help build services that ingest, process, and reason over large volumes of security data.
- Contribute to extensible frameworks for integrations with third-party security systems, including SIEMs, EDR/XDR platforms, identity providers, and cloud and SaaS logs.
- Build reliable backend components that support fast customer onboarding and compelling proof-of-value experiences, from data ingestion to actionable insights.
- Help design storage, indexing, and access patterns for highly dimensional, time-oriented security data used in real-time analysis and historical investigations.
- Develop and evaluate agents and automation that help security teams investigate threats more quickly and effectively.
- Write production code.
