•$120,000 - $150,000•Onsite

About The Position

Vital Lyfe is seeking a Software Engineer to build and maintain software supporting a consumer hardware product as the company scales manufacturing. This is the first full-time hire on the software team. Working directly with the Head of Software, the engineer will own a substantial area of backend and data systems and contribute to tools and infrastructure used across company operations. The role focuses on building data pipelines that collect, validate, store, and present test and production data from the manufacturing line; developing backend services and integrations on the company’s cloud platform; and owning software through design, testing, release, debugging, and production support. The engineer will also help shape technical design and implementation decisions, improve internal tools for real-time manufacturing visibility, and contribute to the manufacturing execution system (MES) and handheld app used by floor teams. The stack includes TypeScript, Python, React, and AWS. The position is 100% onsite in Torrance, California; remote and hybrid work are not considered.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or a related field, or equivalent experience.
  • 2 to 4 years of professional software-building experience.
  • Experience building and maintaining backend services or APIs in production.
  • Strong programming fundamentals and ability to learn new systems quickly.
  • Deep experience with at least one modern programming language, such as Python or TypeScript.
  • Working knowledge of SQL and structured data.
  • Comfort working in a codebase the candidate did not write and independently debugging problems.
  • Practical, curious approach, with ownership and follow-through.
  • Ability to break down problems, work through them, and know when to ask for help.
  • Interest in working at the intersection of software and hardware.
  • Ability to work 100% onsite in Torrance, California.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience building data pipelines, including validating and cleaning messy real-world data.
  • Background building user-facing interfaces with React or a similar frontend framework.
  • Experience with dashboards or data visualization tools.
  • Experience with AWS, especially serverless systems and infrastructure as code.
  • Experience with ERP, MES, or other manufacturing systems.
  • Interest in manufacturing, hardware-software integration, or IoT systems.

Responsibilities

  • Build and maintain data pipelines to collect test and production data from the manufacturing line, validate and store it, and create views for tracking yield and failures.
  • Build, extend, and maintain backend services and system integrations on the established cloud platform, ensuring reliable data across the company.
  • Own software end to end, including design, testing, shipping, debugging, and production maintenance.
  • Help shape design and implementation decisions that advance the technical roadmap.
  • Build and improve internal tools that provide engineering and operations teams with real-time visibility into production and manufacturing workflows.
  • Contribute to other software, including the manufacturing execution system (MES) and the handheld app used by floor teams.

Benefits

  • Opportunity to be the first full-time hire on a new software team and help shape how the team works.
  • Work on high-impact problems with global relevance.
  • Help scale technology related to water security and climate resilience.
  • Early ownership in a high-growth, engineering-led startup.
  • Join a close-knit, mission-driven team in a fast-paced environment.
  • Build long-term career equity as the company grows.
