About The Position

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Senior Software Engineer – Android to join our team. As a Senior Software Engineer – Android, you will be responsible for problem solving, designing, developing, testing, and maintaining software applications. You will work closely with cross-functional teams to identify and prioritize project requirements and collaborate with other engineers to ensure the successful delivery of projects. About the team: The Product Details Page Customer Experience Team enhances how customers engage with product information on Walmart’s website. This multidisciplinary team integrates product management, design, engineering, content, research, and analytics to deliver clear and accessible item detail pages. By leveraging user research and data insights, the team continuously refines layouts and interactions to support informed purchasing decisions. Their efforts ensure seamless, accurate, and intuitive experiences that minimize friction and elevate customer satisfaction throughout the shopping journey, aligning with Walmart’s commitment to quality and innovation.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in computer science, Engineering, or equivalent experience.
  • 3–7 years of Android development experience.
  • Proficiency in Kotlin and/or Java.
  • Experience with Android SDK, Jetpack libraries, and REST API integration.
  • Understanding of Agile development methodology.
  • Experience with unit testing and debugging tools.
  • Exposure to AI-assisted development tools (Claude, Cursor, Copilot, etc.).
  • Option 1: Bachelor's degree in computer science, computer engineering, computer information systems, software engineering, or related area and 3 years’ experience in software engineering or related area.
  • Option 2: 5 years’ experience in software engineering or related area.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with Jetpack Compose.
  • Familiarity with CI/CD pipelines and DevOps practices.
  • Knowledge of mobile performance optimization and monitoring.
  • Exposure to cloud platforms (AWS/Azure).
  • Understanding of secure coding practices and data privacy standards.
  • Master’s degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Computer Information Systems, Software Engineering, or related area and 1 year's experience in software engineering or related area.
  • Background in creating inclusive digital experiences, demonstrating knowledge in implementing Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.2 AA standards, assistive technologies, and integrating digital accessibility seamlessly.

Responsibilities

  • Participate in discovery and design for small-to-medium features by partnering with Product, UX, and Engineering teams.
  • Translate business and technical requirements into scalable Android solutions.
  • Design, develop, test, and maintain Android applications using Kotlin/Java and modern Android frameworks.
  • Follow established architecture patterns (MVVM/Clean Architecture) and coding standards.
  • Write unit tests and support integration and regression testing.
  • Troubleshoot production issues, perform root cause analysis, and implement corrective actions.
  • Implement telemetry, logging, and performance monitoring enhancements.
  • Leverage AI-powered development tools (e.g., Claude, Cursor, Copilot) to improve engineering efficiency and code quality.
  • Communicate status, risks, and blockers clearly to stakeholders.
  • Provide task-level guidance to 1–2 engineers as needed.
