About The Position

Lumos is hiring a Software Engineer for its AI Agent Governance product, a new governance layer that helps companies see and control the tools and access used by AI agents. The engineer will join a small, fast-moving team building the product from the ground up and shipping it to customers. The role focuses on delivering backend features end to end, from customer requests through production, while ensuring those features provide customer value. The engineer will participate in the on-call rotation, work directly with customers when issues arise, and build testing systems and harnesses that enable agents to ship changes safely. The role also involves using agents heavily in day-to-day work while maintaining a deep understanding of system architecture. Lumos describes its culture as remote-first, fast-moving, and comfortable with ambiguity. Employees may work from anywhere within four hours of Pacific Time. The stated pay range is $133,500–$150,000, plus equity and benefits; actual pay may vary based on skills and experience.

Requirements

  • At least 1 year of professional software engineering experience, or an equivalent track record of shipping real products.
  • Strong backend fundamentals, including experience building APIs, databases, and services that run in production.
  • Experience or familiarity with the stated stack: Python, Postgres, OpenSearch, gRPC, and AWS.
  • Understanding of how AI agents work, including tool calls, MCP servers, hooks, and context.
  • Comfort working with ambiguity, starting before specifications are complete, and changing direction in response to customer feedback.
  • Ownership and willingness to work in a high-intensity role on a product still finding product-market fit.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with endpoint or client software, such as MDM or software that runs on laptops.
  • Background in security or identity.

Responsibilities

  • Ship backend features end to end, from initial customer requests to production, often within days.
  • Ensure work delivers value to customers rather than merely implementing a specification.
  • Participate in the on-call rotation.
  • Build testing systems and harnesses that help agents ship changes safely.
  • Work directly with customers when issues arise.
  • Use agents extensively in day-to-day work while understanding and explaining the system architecture.

Benefits

  • Equity.
  • Medical, dental, and vision insurance, with 100% of employee premiums and 60% of dependent premiums covered.
  • HSA and FSA available with employer contribution.
  • Mental health resources and support.
  • Monthly wellness stipend for gym memberships, fitness apps, and other wellness needs.
  • Life insurance and short- and long-term disability coverage.
  • Flexible PTO with a minimum annual requirement.
  • Up to 16 weeks of paid parental leave.
  • $1,000 annual learning stipend for courses, books, conferences, and certifications.
  • Fully covered company and team offsites.
  • 401(k) with employer matching.
