About The Position

The Player Platform Solutions team at Netflix is responsible for the operational excellence, reliability, and quality of the player across Web and TV platforms. This team builds and maintains test frameworks and automation, drives quality assessment and performance improvements, enhances developer productivity workflows, and owns infrastructure tooling, monitoring, and release management for the player. They collaborate with internal and external teams on platform-specific and foundational playback needs, including device security, client-server communication, and performance optimization. The team works closely with Core Playback and Stream Algorithms to ensure a consistent, high-quality playback experience for members globally. They are focused on ensuring playback functions seamlessly on living-room devices and browsers at a global scale, and are advancing their testing, debugging, and shipping processes using the latest tools, including AI, to make the Player safe and fast to change on every TV and Web platform. The team comprises engineers with diverse backgrounds and expertise in areas such as content protection, client-server communication, networking protocols, continuous integration, test automation, experimentation, and software engineering. Success is driven by self-motivated, collaborative, and curious engineers who prioritize team goals.

Requirements

  • Solid software engineering experience (roughly 3+ years, or equivalent depth) with a focus on test development.
  • Strong proficiency in JavaScript and/or TypeScript.
  • Experience with CI/CD tools (Jenkins, Spinnaker, or GitHub Actions) and comfort debugging and extending build and release pipelines.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with a data-driven approach to identifying root causes and implementing effective solutions.
  • Strong communication and collaboration skills across cross-functional teams.
  • Willingness to give thoughtful code reviews and share what you learn with the team.
  • Exposure to A/B testing or experimentation workflows.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience in streaming media playback, architecture, and industry protocols relevant to video streaming.

Responsibilities

  • Designing and implementing automated tests and tooling to ensure high-quality streaming experiences on TV and Web devices.
  • Contributing to improving build, integration, and release workflows for quick and reliable feature and fix shipping.
  • Partnering with engineers across the team to scope and deliver projects end to end.
  • Growing depth in playback quality and developer productivity.
  • Taking ownership of well-scoped test automation projects and seeing them through to production.
  • Using data and metrics to investigate quality and reliability issues and raising significant ones.
  • Communicating clearly and working effectively with engineers on adjacent teams.
  • Utilizing GenAI in day-to-day development workflow, including test automation and CI/CD/release processes.
