About The Position

The Software Specialist is responsible for the development, operation, and maintenance of software applications and system interfaces. The Software Specialist works with management, consultants, developers, vendors, and users to identify and prioritize software/system enhancements and defect resolution. The Software Specialist supports the computing needs of the Plant IT organization while adhering to software quality procedures and guidance. The position will execute activities ensuring optimum outputs are achieved in the most economic and safe manner while supporting the integrity and infrastructure of the department. This position shall be performed under the day-to-day direction, control, and supervision of WTCC.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in computer science or information systems with 10 years of related work experience.
  • Experience writing queries, stored procedures, and triggers.
  • Ability to collaborate with multidisciplinary teams.
  • Analytical problem solving and troubleshooting skills.
  • Ability to communicate information clearly and effectively both verbally and in writing.
  • Ability to understand customer requirements and expectations.
  • Capable of designing software, databases and reporting solutions to meet user needs.
  • Self-motivated with the ability to prioritize, meet deadlines and manage changing priorities.
  • Must be able to follow established quality assurance methods and procedures.
  • Ability to follow instructions and processes to plan and manage the orderly implementation of change.
  • Must be authorized to work and remain in the United States without Amentum visa sponsorship now or in the future.
  • Must be able to complete and pass a pre-employment drug screen and background check which includes verification of employment and education.
  • Must be able to obtain a Department of Energy badge for access to the Hanford Site.

Responsibilities

  • Development, operations, and maintenance of software applications and database systems.
  • Support production software and databases.
  • Work with application administrators and other database administrators to resolve production software problems.
  • Design and implement new or existing complex software application programs and reports according to project software standards and conventions and reviewing the work of others.
  • Ensure automated data feeds and system interfaces are working as intended.
  • Analyze, design, develop, and maintain complex scalable software applications according to project software requirements, standards and conventions.
  • Install, configure, and upgrade commercial and developed software and tools in support of operational systems and the development of test environments.
  • Propose technical solutions to automate manual processes.
  • Troubleshoot and resolve complex issues related to system interfaces.
  • Regularly interface with internal application users to identify emergent issues.
  • Develop specifications from business requirements in consultation with end users.
  • Support Continuous Improvement efforts intended to improve the quality of existing software.
  • Support the Waste Treatment Plant Nuclear Safety Quality Culture by emphasizing the values of safety and quality in the performance of work to protect self, others, and the environment.
